A number of celebrities have spoken out about the Lifetime docuseries being hard to watch and “The Breakfast Club” co-host is the latest to weigh in on the topic. Ethical Questions Surrounding Where Is Wendy Williams?
Where Is Wendy Williams? has taken the internet by storm. As people continue to tune into the four-part docuseries, they are offering up their thoughts on the star’s experience.
The documentary was initially meant to follow Wendy’s comeback after she lost her show in 2022. However, what the cameras captured was much different. Viewers have been watching Wendy Williams’ mental and physical health decline throughout the series.
Shortly before the series aired on Lifetime, Wendy’s medical care team shared news of her official diagnosis. The beloved talk show star was diagnosed with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., shared that doctors told him that she had dementia prior to her diagnosis being announced publicly. He was told she was having alcohol-related memory loss, something viewers see play out in the documentary.
Many people have questioned whether or not the documentary was exploitative. After all, Wendy Williams wasn’t in the right state of mind to give permission for cameras to be there. Yet, her family, managerial team, and financial guardian all signed off on the project before cameras started rolling. Several people have expressed shock at the fact that her family signed off on something like this.
Charlamagne Tha God Weighs In On Wendy Williams Doc
Charlamagne Tha God is one such person who didn’t understand why Wendy’s family would allow the Lifetime project to move forward. Like many other people who know Wendy Williams, Charlamagne said that the series was extremely hard to watch.
“I don’t know who she has around her that truly cares and I was very very shocked and surprised to see that her family was executive producers of this project,” he said about the documentary.
The “Breakfast Club” co-host said, “I know her son, Kevin, her niece, nephew, sister and brother all love her and care for her so it’s very interesting to see them participate in this documentary knowing the state she was in. I was just like, damn. You could look at her and tell something’s not right, so why would you want this out there?”
At the same time, Charlamagne says that the docuseries doesn’t erase Wendy Williams’ amazing legacy. She’s made a huge difference in the world of radio and television throughout her life.
He pointed out her “stellar” radio career and 14-year run on TV. “This is just the current chapter for Wendy Williams,” he said.
“You can’t erase who Wendy Williams is,” Charlamagne said about Wendy, “You just have to look at all of this in the totality of her existence. Her story is not over. That’s the beauty about life: it is never over until it’s over. It is not the end for Wendy Williams because she is still here on this planet.”
Charlamagne Tha God had a personal relationship with Wendy Williams. He got his first big break on the radio working with her on 107.5 WBLS from 2006 to 2008.
