Big ‘GMA’ Shakeup As Michael Strahan & Robin Roberts Replaced
Good Morning America fans saw a huge change in the show on Friday’s episode. Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts were gone. Replacing the two were Gio Benitez and Rebecca Jarvis. While many fans might be wondering what happened to the regular hosts, there are good reasons for their absence.
Here is why GMA replaced Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan this last week.
Michael Strahan is going through some personal issues
Michael Strahan missed most of last week on Good Morning America. The former NFL star missed the week’s tapings because of his daughter. Isabella has started chemotherapy treatment after announcing she has been battling a brain tumor. Michael, in no surprise, took time off from the show and other commitments to be with his daughter during this time.
Isabella is only 19. She luckily has her dad, Michael Strahan, and his girlfriend, Kayla Quick, by her side. Last month, Isabella announced to the world what was happening when she sat down with the GMA crew. Her dad sat by her side. Michael said that she was having headaches as she started college as a freshman. However, when she got checked out, they discovered the brain tumor.
The diagnosis was in October 2023. Michael and Isabella kept it private. However, Isabella wanted to talk to the world about her diagnosis. She wanted to be a person who could help others going through a similar situation.
During his time off from the show, Michael Strahan has been spending time with Isabella and her twin sister Sophia. The three of them, alongside Kayla, attended the college basketball game between Notre Dame and Duke on Wednesday. Isabella is undergoing her treatment at the Duke University Hospital Cancer Center.
Robin Roberts has also been taking time off from Good Morning America
Losing Michael Strahan was a big deal for Good Morning America. However, Robin Roberts also missed multiple shows last week, really shaking up the lineup. For Robin, she took off on Monday and then came back before taking off on Friday as well. There is no word on why Robin missed the shows.
However, Robin Roberts has a new project she is working on away from Good Morning America. She is working on The Harlem Hellfighters project, which is a new movie that hit the History Channel this last Sunday. This is a documentary telling the story of the Black combat unit of World War I.
Replacing Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts was Weekend GMA anchor Gio Benitez and correspondent Rebecca Jarvis. Rebecca had just returned from maternity leave this week.
