The standoff between Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner seems to be at a standstill. Yellowstone Creator Puts The Nail In The Coffin On Kevin Costner’s Return

Exactly a year ago, Yellowstone fans first learned of the cantankerous relationship between Yellowstone creator, Taylor Sheridan, and Kevin Costner. Script delays caused filming delays of the series.

All of these delays were going to cause issues with filming Costner’s passion project, Horizon. Costner put in his own money, but also two of his friends invested heavily as well. He felt a weight of responsibility to get two of the four movies filmed so they could get them into the theaters and make money.

Suddenly, Paramount, who seemingly leaked this info with the handy “unidentified sources” to industry outlets, seemed to show an embattled set. On the other side, Costner battled out his return as John Dutton, negotiating into Season 7. Who won this showdown?

According to Puck, an industry newsletter, it seems that Sheridan is the winner. Moreover, Matthew Belloni reported that Kevin Costner will not be back for Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2.

After many overturns and ultimatums, Sheridan, in the parlance of the show, drove Costner to the train station, and wrote the upcoming post-strike back half of Season 5 without John Dutton.

That means that whatever happens to John Dutton in the final episodes of Yellowstone, will be done off-screen. The Field Of Dreams star will not be back. Taylor Sheridan wrote the script without him in any episode.

Taylor Sheridan Running Into Similar Issues With Matthew McConaughey

In related news, in this report, Belloni revealed that Matthew McConaughey has still not signed on with the Yellowstone spinoff series 2024. This is especially shocking because the loss of Kevin Costner has always been remedied with the knowledge that there will be a new series with McConaughey.

However, the Dallas Buyers Club star is not signing anything until he sees some scripts. But, Taylor Sheridan has yet to produce those very scripts. Moreover, “reports of his commitment to the project are overstated.” That means, there has been a lot of hype over this development, but Matthew has not been ready to sign. Again, he needs to see some scripts.

Taylor Sheridan’s heavy workload and nearly one dozen projects happening for Paramount have resulted in a lot of script delays. During the strike, many writers pointed out how he did not have a writer’s room. Perhaps he may want to reconsider how he works to be more timely with this important detail.

Yellowstone fans, are you disappointed that Kevin Costner is Not Returning?
