Kevin Costner Reportedly Has Money Woes: Will It Affect ‘Horizon’?
Kevin Costner has been dreaming of his Western Expansion epic movie Horizon for over three decades. However, he has reportedly experienced some money woes that could derail the Yellowstone alum’s passion project.

Is Kevin Costner Out Of Money?
Now that Kevin Costner has survived a rollercoaster in 2023, things should be smooth sailing. However, according to the industry paper Puck, the award-winning actor has some financial issues.
However, his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner may not need to be concerned about those monthly child support payments, this has to do with the financing of his passion project Horizon.
Firstly, this has expanded to a four-movie project. The first two are set to premiere in the summer. However, the Field Of Dreams star still needs money to pay for the second two movies. Moreover, financing is hard to come by.
Although the starring Horizon cast includes Costner, as well as Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Luke Wilson, and Sienna Miller, there are no offers to make two more movies.
Each movie reportedly costs upwards of $100 million to make each movie. Although such movies as Barbie and Oppenheimer found tremendous success in 2023, a Western is not a safe bet.
In addition, although Costner found tremendous success with Dances With Wolves, financiers do remember The Postman and Waterworld.
Actor Financed First Two Movies On His Own
Back in May, Deadline interviewed Kevin Costner and Frances Ford Coppola. Both men have taken big gambles that turned to gold, and sometimes to dust. Here, Costner revealed how he started Horizon in 1988, and it was almost made on several occasions. Over the decades, the Idea morphed from one to four movies.
However, Costner confessed that he was “not a very good businessman.” That is because he put his own money into this project. He mortgaged 10 acres of land in Santa Barbara to help pay for this.
Also, he got investments from two friends who were not in the business. While he put his own money into this project, it is paying back his friends that concern him most.
But, it would seem that finishing this monolith is going to be as great of a concern. It would be quite a failure if he is unable to complete this four-movie passion project. Yet, he is currently in limbo.
Is Kevin Costner Returning To Yellowstone?
Currently, there is no expectation that Kevin Costner will return to Yellowstone. At the Golden Globes last week, he was announced as the actor, director, and producer of Horizon: An American Saga, with no mention of his Golden Globes Award-winning role as John Dutton.
One of the issues he had with filming the final episodes was limited availability. That was due to his Horizon filming schedule. Therefore, if Horizon is delayed, could Costner return? Perhaps this paycheck could help him film his final two movies as well?
