‘General Hospital’ Shocking Exit, Will Esme Prince Be Resurrected?
A popular character just seemingly died on General Hospital. On Wednesday’s episode, Esme Prince and her ex-boyfriend fell overboard from a yacht and both were presumed dead. It was a huge cliffhanger, and many fans wondered what was going to happen to the characters.
General Hospital has revealed the character’s fate and here is what you need to know.
Is Esme Prince really dead on General Hospital?
On Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital, Esme ambushed Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). She injected him with a syringe with some unknown drug in it. Esme then attacked Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali). While Spencer was temporarily incapacitated, he was able to come to Trina’s rescue and save her from Esme.
Spencer and Esme fell into the Seine in Paris, and both characters disappeared without a trace. This is where the confusion comes into play. Chavez is taking time off from General Hospital while he shoots the next season of Monster for Netflix. He will play Lyle Menendez, one of the siblings who killed their parents in 1996. This means Spencer will live and return to the show. But, what about Esme?
While it seems that if Spencer lives, Esme will as well, that is not the case. ABC officially confirmed that actress Avery Pohl is leaving General Hospital, and this means that Esme won’t be back – at least not right now. ABC announced the departure on Thursday, one day after the episode aired (via Soap Opera Digest).
Avery played Esme Prince for three years on the soap opera. She was a popular villain on the soap, someone that fans loved to hate. Esme was the daughter of Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) and Heather Webber (Alley Mills), two serial killers from the show. She followed their footsteps with her evil ways.
Esme Prince could still return to General Hospital
Avery Pohl leaving General Hospital does not mean that Esme Prince will never be back on the soap opera. One of the biggest rules in soaps is that anyone could return to the show – especially if you don’t see the dead body. Since Esme went overboard without a trace, she is likely still alive out there somewhere.
A similar event happened with Steve Burton and Jason Morgan. In one storyline, Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) shot Jason and kicked him into the water. Similar to Esme, his body was never found. Soon, he returned with a new actor (Billy Miller) and the excuse that he had facial reconstruction. Soon, Steve returned as Jason and it turned out he survived and Billy’s Jason was his brother.
Steve died once again in 2021 while in a gunfight in Greece, but his body once again was never found. Now, Steve Burton is returning in 2024 because no one stays dead in soap operas.
