Alabama Barker Opens Up About Mental Health Struggle
Although Alabama Barker seems to have the whole world going for her, she opened up about a struggle she is facing. While her dad, Travis Barker, and stepmom, Kourtney Kardashian, recently welcomed her new brother, Alabama is seemingly having a hard time. Notably, she turned eighteen in December. And she announced that her music career is moving forward with more songs on their way. Seemingly, she has many pieces of her life going right for her. Even so, her mental health is not in a good place currently.
Travis Barker And Shanna Moakler’s Parenting Comes Into Question
Recently, Travis Barker and Alabama Barker’s mom, Shanna Moakler, have both been slammed for poor parenting. Although Alabama is now of legal age, she has increasingly made fans question her decisions for several years. In effect, fans point to Blink-182 drummer, Travis, for being a bad parent. Additionally, now Travis and The Kardashians star, Kourtney Kardashian, have added a new family member that takes some of the craved attention from Alabama.
But Alabama Barker’s mom is also getting backlash for her raising. When asked why Alabama stopped following Shanna on Instagram in November 2022, Shanna relays, “Apparently, I’m a raging a**hole. That’s the word on the street. Lots of laughs.” However, just a week ago, Alabama made a statement by liking a post. It said, “Deadbeat mothers exist. I’m tired of y’all acting like it’s always the dads.” Which, most relates her action to calling out her mother.
Mental Health Doesn’t Play Favorites Even For Alabama Barker
Although Alabama Barker has many things going for her right now, she professes she is struggling with her mental health. Admittedly, on TikTok, Alabama states that she is battling derealization. In the clip, she scrunches her face up and adds text that says, “That derealization a mf.” In the background was a song with the lyrics, “Nobody understands my pain, and I’ve been going through sh*t by myself.” Even with what many people feel is a highly desirable life, Alabama is confronted with a fight against herself.
Understanding Derealization
According to the Mayo Clinic, “Depersonalization-derealization disorder occurs when you always or often feel that you’re seeing yourself from outside your body or you sense that things around you are not real — or both.” It discusses that the feelings one has with depersonalization and derealization can be very disturbing. Then gives the example, “You may feel like you’re living in a dream.” Additionally, it speaks about the toll it can take on a person’s life. Saying, “Depersonalization-derealization disorder can be serious and may get in the way of your relationships and work. It also can disrupt other daily activities.”
