‘Shark Tank’: Where To Buy Fishwife Tinned Seafood
There is a brand-new episode of Shark Tank on tonight after a multi-week break for the holidays. One of the new entrepreneurs looking for some sharks to invest in their product is a female-founded food company called Fishwife Tinned Seafood Co.
Here is everything you need to know about Fishwife Tinned Seafood from Shark Tank and where you can buy it.
What is Fishwife Tinned Seafood on Shark Tank?
“Fishwife” is a term that dates back to the 16th century and refers to the wives and daughters of fishermen who sold fish at the market. This soon changed into a slang term, though. Its meaning at that time was a woman who was “brash, foul-mouthed, and brassy.” That is why the founders of the Fishwife Tinned Seafood Co. chose the name.
Fishwife Tinned Seafood Co. is a business that makes “ethically sourced” premium tinned seafood for consumers. They source their fish from responsibly managed fisheries and aquaculture farms in North America. Created by Becca Millstein and Caroline Goldfarb in 2020, the women came up with the idea during quarantine when they were eating a lot of tinned fish thanks to its shelf stability.
“After digging into it a little bit more, we realized it’s one of the only foods that’s incredibly healthy—so much protein, vitamins, Omega-3s, all the great things—while being shelf-stable,” Becca said (via Acid League). She said that their tinned fish has a four-year shelf life. When it comes to the product itself, Becca calls it a “miracle food” that offers a great level of protein.
