What Is Players About?

Netflix just dropped the preview for its new romcom Players. Gina Rodriguez is a New York City sportswriter named Mack. However, her sports obsession is more than what she writes about. Firstly, she is making “plays” with the help of her wingmen friends when they go out. They scope out a potential hookup and then the team gets to work. Moreover, their pal gets some action with the unaware person. They score and win the game.

But, there are some caveats to the plays. That includes a “strict set of ground rules.” The number one rule? “You can’t build a relationship from a play.”

However, everything changes when Mack meets war reporter Nick. The team gets into action and suddenly, he is ambushed wherever he goes. Nick even jokes with Mack about that very thing. But, Mack wants more than just a hook-up. Not long ago, she loved the thrill of the play. Mack was happy to walk away after the score. Yet, now, she is ready for the real thing. Now, the team works on creating the magic for the couple to fall in love.

New York Is The Setting For Netflix’s Players

Speaking to People, Gina Rodriguez revealed how filming this movie in New York made it extra special. The setting is another character in this movie. “I went to college in New York and lived in Brooklyn. This felt like a love letter to Brooklyn and there were so many memories that came flooding in while shooting.”

Director Trish Sie believes this is the sort of movie people need now. “The world is in need of a sweet escape.” The Pitch Perfect 3 director continued, “Players is both tender-hearted and irreverent. It’s cheeky, but it’s kind. It’s a reminder that love is always possible, and friendships are priceless.”
