‘DWTS’ Mike Sorrentino Admits To Using Pills During Season 11
Sometimes Dancing With The Stars contestants need a little help adjusting to the rigorous rehearsal routine. However, they don’t generally turn to drugs to cope. That can’t necessarily be said for Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.
His new memoir, Reality Check: Making the Best of The Situation — How I Overcame Addiction, Loss, and Prison, is out. And within the pages, he makes many startling confessions. For example, he was taking quite a few pills while competing on DWTS Season 11.
Keep reading to get the scoop.
Mike Sorrentino couldn’t get through rehearsals without pills
During Season 11, The Situation was paired with pro dancer Karina Smirnoff. However, their time in the ballroom was pretty short-lived. They finished in 9th place out of 12 couples. Derek Hough and Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey went on to win the season.
Even though he wasn’t on the show for very long, Mike Sorrentino was taking several pills just to keep up.
“I needed those pills for DWTS,” the 41-year-old admitted in his new memoir. “That was one of the hardest shows I’ve ever done. I practiced eight hours a day, popping six Perc [30-milligram pills] every few hours.”
The Situation was 28 years old at the time. He reportedly even contacted a dealer back in his home state who would send him packages of pens with pills hidden inside to keep him satiated while competing.
The reality star’s addiction took over his life
In his memoir, Mike Sorrentino makes it abundantly clear that he really needed help. His addiction spanned beyond his run on Dancing With The Stars and he was in a very grave situation.
“I functioned on six to eight 30-milligram Oxycodone, pretty much at all times,” the reality star also confessed to Us Weekly. Eventually, his tolerance skyrocketed to the point where he took almost 90 Percocets every day.
Sadly, he also went to great lengths to access drugs while filming Jersey Shore.
“I was jumping out of moving cars, smuggling drugs into different countries within my shoes, taking apart fat burners and reconstituting it with drugs to smuggle it into seasons in Miami,” Mike Sorrentino continued. “There [were] many talks with executive producers and the owners of the show, and they desperately tried to help me, and the whole time I was in denial.”
Thankfully, he has been sober for eight years. His fans are incredibly proud of his progress and hope he can keep up the great work. Overcoming addiction and staying sober is no easy feat.
The Situation probably wouldn’t ever want to compete on Dancing With The Stars again, but he did cheer on his castmate Vinny Guadagnino in Season 31.
