Will Jeff Probst Retire After ‘Survivor’ Season 50?

Season 50 is the next major milestone for CBS’s Survivor. The question is: Will Jeff Probst stick around to host beyond Season 50? Or, is he ready to pass the hosting responsibility on to someone else?

Fortunately, Jeff Probst discussed the future of the reality TV series on his podcast recently. What did he have to say about it? Keep reading for the details.

‘Impossible’ To Plan Out Show’s Future

Sitting down with Entertainment Weekly for an exclusive interview last year, Jeff Probst was asked about the future of the show. More specifically, did he know how long he hoped for the show to continue? Unfortunately, he said it wasn’t a very easy question to answer. He, however, did the best he could.

“Impossible. It goes beyond creative expression or professional recognition. It’s much deeper. It’s right in line with the ideas I try to impress on our players. It’s about pushing myself further than I think I can go, about trying to stay in the moment and adapt to my surroundings, about being a good ‘tribe member,’ about being open to new ideas and new people. The same opportunities Survivor offers the players, it offers me. I love Survivor and I still need Survivor.”

During a recent episode of his On Fire podcast, the topic of the show’s future came up as a topic of conversation again. Once again doting on his love for the show, he admitted that Survivor Season 50 is the real dream at this point.

Jeff Probst Dreams Of Survivor Season 50

Jeff Probst doted about how much he loved the show on a recent episode of his podcast. Furthermore, he believed his love for the show was obvious to everyone. Then, he admitted that Survivor 50 was “definitely” the next big milestone for the series.

He, however, believed people needed to stop talking and thinking about Season 50 because the show just wasn’t there yet. There were a lot of other seasons that had to happen first. Sadly, a lot could change between now and then.

“But you’ve got to remember: We’ve got to get there. So you have to do 45 and 46, then you have to do 47 and 48, then you have to do 49, then you get to 50. So it is one at a time.”

He Will Stick Around Under One Condition

Jeff Probst also admitted he isn’t set on retiring after Season 50. He, however, has some conditions for sticking around. Namely, he just has one big condition.

He proceeded to explain there is a large, solid team of people who come together to make the show work. And, he’s NOT willing to continue to host the show without the team staying intact.

Obviously, Jeff Probst doesn’t have control over someone on the team retiring or passing away. He, however, made it clear he won’t tolerate someone being forced off the team.

This show is made by a giant group, and we’re all in it together, and I would not want to do the show with another team. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to start over with new people. So I’m in it as long as everybody else on the team is in it.”

While it wasn’t a deal breaker, he added that continuing to find interesting people to be cast members on the show was also pretty important to him. Fortunately, there does not seem to be any shortage of “interesting people” for the show to recruit.
