My 600-lb Life alum Mark Rutland had an odd journey in Season 11. He appeared on the show at 715 pounds and was nearly immobile. He did well throughout his episode. But he decided not to proceed with the bariatric surgery. Regardless, he has inspired many with his dedication to losing weight. My 600-lb Life: Mark Rutland’s Weight Loss Journey
Mark was determined to lose weight and quickly followed Dr. Now’s programs. He lost 97 pounds in the first few months of strict diet and exercise. He even got a home job and even got to ride a bike. However, he wasn’t satisfied with his progress and began to shed more weight.
But many viewers were surprised after the My 600-lb Life alum revealed that he doesn’t want bariatric surgery despite already being qualified. According to him, he felt like the procedure was cheating, and he wanted to prove to himself that he could slim down without it. Rutland lost 137 pounds by the end of his episode, dropping him to 578 lbs.
Mark Shares Unrecognizable Picture
Mark has also kept in touch with the fans behind the cameras. Recently, the former My 600-lb Life star shared a stunning before-and-after photo of himself. “A couple years to the day I started my “journey” and the mental transformation has been bigger than the physical. I’m grateful to so many people,” he captioned.
Mark Rutland also added that betting on himself was the best bet he ever made, implying that he never proceeded with the weight loss surgery. Dr. Now’s former patient also revealed he’s currently below 300 lbs and made it clear that he still has a long road ahead.
My 600-lb Life: Mark Rutland Gives Job Update
Mark also took to Instagram in October to share an update about his career. According to the My 600-lb Life alum, he’s no longer working from home for the entire week after he got transferred to the accounting department. “I have to go to the office 3 days a week, but they have a really nice gym that is usually empty,” he added.

Mark Rutland even shared a clip of himself working out at his office’s gym. He also said that he struggles with numbers, which is a big part of his job, but he won’t back down from any challenge similar to what he did when he rejected Dr. Now’s advice to get surgery.
