Al Roker and his wife, Deborah Roberts, teamed up to co-host the CARE Impact Awards Ceremony on November 8th. The 2023 Impact Awards Ceremony was held at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in Manhattan. They announced prior to the ceremony that they were looking forward to working together for the event.

What Is The CARE Organization?

The CARE organization is a humanitarian group that was founded in 1945. Their first humanitarian effort was the creation of the original ‘CARE’ package, in which 22 American charities came together to send the remainder of the World War II military rations to the war-torn countries in Europe. Over the years, they expanded their packages to include not only food but also clothes, soap, and toys.

In 1993, the organization shifted its focus to empowering women and girls in an effort to create social change, end poverty, and, most importantly, save lives. As such, the awards given by this organization focus on their honoree’s generosity, advocacy, and innovative work to further their efforts.

Who Were The Honorees Of The 2023 Impact Awards?

Former president Bill Clinton appeared as a surprise guest to introduce the first CARE award honorees, Andrew and Carolyn Young. Clinton presented the former congressman and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and his wife with the CARE Impact Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The next honorees were James Quincy and Bea Perez. Quincy and Perez are the CEO and Senior Vice President of the Coca-Cola Company. They received the CARE Impact Award for Corporate Leadership. Their nomination caused quite a stir, as animal rights activists appeared at the event to protest Quincy’s win. Fortunately, many of the guests had already departed for the evening by the time the protesters arrived, so it didn’t spoil the evening.

Finally, Radhika Jones, who is the Editor-in-Chief at Vanity Fair, took home the CARE Impact Award for Visionary Leadership.
