‘The View’ Joy Behar’s New Career Move Brings Big Support
The View host Joy Behar’s brand new comedy show premiered at the New York Comedy Festival. Her show, Bonkers in the Boroughs: Five Short Plays, is a huge career change for Behar, so it was nice to see that she had support from co-hosts Ana Navarro and Sara Haines. Many of The View’s crew and production members also attended the festival in support of Joy’s new project.
A Few From The View Were Missing in Action
When everyone else shows up, it’s easy to see who didn’t. Unfortunately, co-hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and Whoopi Goldberg were noticeably missing from this pivotal event in their coworker’s life.
In a recent interview, one insider said that Sunny planned to attend the show on Saturday and that Alyssa couldn’t go because she was sick. No one offered up an alibi for Whoopi, but she might have skipped the event because she had worked that day. Joy usually fills in for her as moderator on Fridays; however, Whoopi came in on her day off so Joy could prepare for the festival that evening.
What is Bonkers in the Boroughs?
Bonkers in the Boroughs: Five Short Plays is a series of comedic plays that were written by Joy Behar.
As if writing the plays wasn’t enough, she also stars in one of them- Get Me Theresa Caputo. Her starring role is that of a feisty woman from Queens who tries to contact the dead. The plays are quirky comedies that showcase the charm and eccentricities of New York families. Joy spent her childhood in Brooklyn, went to college in Queens, and currently lives and works in Manhattan. She also spent an extensive amount of time in the Bronx and on Staten Island in her youth, so she has a wealth of knowledge about all five boroughs of New York City. The five plays are titled Get Me Theresa Caputo, Greasing the Squeak, Born Identity, Let Them Eat Cheesecake, and Pearl Has a Visitor.
Will Joy Retire From The View?
Now that Joy has her sights set on writing comedies, will she leave The View to make more time for her new career? Although she’s a very busy woman, in September, she quashed rumors that she would be leaving the talk show during an episode of The View’s podcast, Behind the Table. During a conversation with her executive producer, Brian Teta, she said that creative people like her don’t retire. In fact, she’s also working on a non-fiction book. The book is currently untitled and won’t be released until late 2024 or early 2025.
