The Yellowstone universe is expanding with a new prequel spinoff, tentatively titled 1944. This will focus on what could be the greatest generation of the Duttons.

What do we know about Taylor Sheridan’s latest Paramount+ series?

Yellowstone: 1944 Is Taylor Sheridan’s Latest Dutton Spinoff Prequel

Taylor Sheridan’s Dutton universe is further expanding. According to Deadline, Paramount has ordered up 1944, the tentative title for the next prequel spinoff. This will focus on the Dutton Family at the end of WWII, and focus on what is historically called “The Greatest Generation.”

Paramount has had great success from two previous Yellowstone prequel spinoffs. Firstly, 1883 starred Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton who head west and wind up settling in Montana. This prequel was a limited series with just one season.

The second prequel, 1923, stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton, who take over running the ranch. This prequel spinoff still has a second season which will likely air in 2024.

However, no names have been attached to 1944. With names like Harrison Ford, Tim McGraw, Helen Mirren, and Faith Hill, Paramount will likely cast more big names. Many stars want to be part of Taylor Sheridan’s universe.

As for the title, it will likely be a number, which corresponds with a year. But, it is possible that this can be changed. For example, 1923 was originally called 1932 until Sheridan decided to move the story up nine years and produce two seasons.

Lastly, Paramount also ordered another spinoff, 2024, which will premiere in December 2024. This will likely star Matthew McConaughey.

Dutton Family Saga Started With Kevin Costner-Led Yellowstone

Five years ago, Paramount took a chance with Taylor Sheridan’s saga of John Dutton III. MAX (then HBO) had the chance to develop Sheridan’s series, but they rejected it. Moreover, Sheridan wanted and got Kevin Costner as the lead, and it soon became the number-one show on cable.

Costner portrays John Dutton, the patriarch of the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. The prequel spinoffs tell the history of the Dutton family.

Yellowstone fans, are you looking forward to the new prequel spinoff 1944?
