‘GAF’ CEO Says Candace Cameron Bure Isn’t Their Spokesperson
Full House and Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure is a faithful and strong-willed woman who has always been very vocal about her beliefs. While the former Hallmark star often has controversial opinions, she’s never backed down from them. Even when she’s received heated backlash for it.
During a recent interview, the Great American Family (GAF) CEO, Bill Abbott, wanted it to be very clear that the 47-year-old actress was NOT the mouthpiece for the company. While he had a lot of respect for her and thought she was a great person, her views were simply: HER views.
What exactly did the Great American Family (GAF) CEO say in this interview? Keep reading for the details.
GAF CEO Says Candace Cameron Bure Isn’t Their Spokesperson
Bill Abbott recently sat down for an interview with Variety. The interview was regarding the Full House and Fuller House star signing on as the chief content officer for Great American Family. More specifically, he was addressing the statement she made about GAF keeping “traditional marriage at the core” when it came to holiday movies.
Before he addressed what Candace said, he explained that what he was talking about was no different than exclaimers that often pop up at the end of movies or TV episodes. Typically, the disclaimer clarifies the views in the movie or TV episode don’t reflect the company.
Candace has such a high profile that when she speaks, she’ll speak on a lot of topics, and she has a wonderful podcast that is fantastic. But when she speaks on that, she’s not speaking on behalf of Great American Media.
Bob Abbott explains it is important for people to understand that Candace is part of the Great American Family (GAF) family. She, however, is also very much her own person. So, every single statement she makes shouldn’t be viewed as her speaking on behalf of the company.
Will The Network Embrace LGBTQ Movies?
Now, the Great American Family (GAF) CEO told Variety the question was both good and fair. He, however, did the best he could to navigate the question without actually answering it.
“I don’t think when we set out to do any type of movie we cast it first. The first thing we think about is a great storyline or great characters or an emotional journey. We’re not seeking to do anything or not do anything, and we take every day as it comes.”
He added that LGBTQ movies will “certainly be something to think about.” Bill Abbott, however, adds that their primary focus is on “profitability” and “being successful.”
Bill continued to explain: “We need to stay focused on the core part of the business right now and then down the road, as our world grows and changes and becomes different, then we’ll see.”
Unfortunately, the Great American Family (GAF) walked a very fine line in how he addressed Candace Cameron Bure. And, he never really made it clear if he did or did not agree with her.
So, how do you feel knowing the network wants it known she does not speak for them? Share your thoughts in the comments. And, keep coming back for more news on your favorite TV shows.
