‘DWTS’ Did Brooke Burke Nearly Cheat With Derek Hough?
Did former Dancing With The Stars contestant Brooke Burke almost have an affair with Derek Hough?
According to the model herself, that nearly did happen during the season she competed on DWTS. Showmances are quite common on the show. Sometimes the celebrity contestants and pro dancers even make them up themselves.
But it seems like Brooke Burke and Derek Hough had chemistry that was absolutely undeniable. What exactly did she have to say about the situation?
Brooke Burke dishes on her feelings for Derek Hough
After leaving Dancing With The Stars behind, pro dancer Cheryl Burke launched a new podcast called Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans. In the most recent episode, she invited DWTS Season 7 champion Brooke Burke to join her.
The year was 2008 and Brooke competed with Derek Hough to bring home the Mirrorball Trophy. She went on to join the show as a cohost for several seasons. Derek later departed the show as a pro dancer and returned as a judge in Season 29.
Many celebrity contestants and their partners do go on to form life-long friendships. But apparently, Brooke Burke really wanted to take their relationship to the next level.
“I just thought he was so young and green and safe. I had no idea he would be such a powerful, badass choreographer,” Brooke admitted during her appearance on the podcast. However, things weren’t always so rosy.
Apparently, Brooke and Derek initially didn’t get along very well. Allegedly, the producers put them in couples therapy to remedy the situation. As a result, Brooke ended up catching feelings for Derek.
“Had I not been married… I would have actually hoped we would have had a love affair … I don’t think I’ve ever said that!” she confessed.
The love affair that never was
Although it’s a difficult admission, Brooke Burke seemed adamant that she had strong romantic feelings for Derek.
“I would have had an affair with him,” the 52-year-old confirmed. “But listen, let me tell you why: You are intertwined with someone’s body when you’re not a dancer. There is no way that I have ever been so connected — besides with a lover or a husband — than I was with Derek. And it’s every single day. So for three months, you are in someone’s arms. Why do you think people fall in love?”
It’s important to note that a few pro dancers did go on to date and even marry their celebrity partners. Artem Chigvintsev married Nikki Bella after competing with her in Season 25.
“You smell them, you feel them, you’re breathing with them. It can be more intimate than making love in a bedroom — you’re making love on a dance floor, you feel more connected,” Brooke continued. “If you have energy, you’re doing this dance and you’re in the rhythm, and then there’s trust, then you’re sharing fear, you’re doing something you’ve never done. How many times do you go through an experience with someone where they’re all you’ve got?”
