Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8 has kicked off with quite the start. Crew member Ruan Irving has been removed from the motor yacht Mustique for falsified documents. Captain Sandy Yawn first learned of the false documents when they were labeled as non-original. Once scanned into the port system Captain Sandy found the photos on the documents were of another individual. However, Ruan claims he was the victim of a scam. Ruan Irving was ordered to leave the vessel until he could produce original documentation. Now Captain Lee Rosbach from Bravo Below Deck is chiming in on the matter. Captain Lee says that the incident is Captain Sandy’s fault. In addition, Captain Lee has labeled the incident as “embarrassing”.

Captain Lee Blames Captain Sandy

During his podcast, Captain Lee Rosbach said that as captain it is Sandy Yawn’s responsibility to check all crew members’ documentation and verify it. Captain Lee went on further to state that when pulling into a foreign port, the port authority can at any time enter the vessel and search it from top to bottom. Any falsified documents can lead to the arrest of all crew members. As we learned in the first episode of Season 8 of Below Deck Mediterranean.

Captain Lee goes on further to call the debacle with Ruan Irving’s documentation “embarrassing”. Lee questions why Captain Sandy did not look at Ruan’s documentation earlier and catch the false documents sooner. Captain Lee goes on to say “I am looking at everyone’s credentials and I am scrutinizing anyone that gets on my boat”. It appears he does not believe that Captain Sandy Yawn is doing this and therefore she is at fault for what took place with Raun Irving.

Raun Irving Pipes Up

Raun Irving finally spoke up about his false documents in a recent Instagram post. Ruan states that his original documents were in South Africa and he sent the Bravo producers the same copies that he gave to Captain Sandy. Raun says that not a single person questioned him on the fact that they were not the original copies. He states that when he returned back to South Africa he sent the producers a video of the original copies. In regards to the yacht master’s certification that had another individual photo on it, Raun says he was the victim of a scam.

Rauan Irving states that he was attending a school five years ago when his certificate expired. he states in his Instagram post that the individual who renewed his certification for him worked at the school. Ruan says in his Instagram post that he “paid a fee and I got sent a back and front copy of the yacht masters with new expiry date”. There is no way in this type of transaction that Ruan could have known the document was false. That is unless he took the time to scan the new barcodes himself. Given what transpired on Below Deck Mediterranean maybe he should have.
