How Does ‘Golden Bachelor’ Gerry Turner Stay In Shape At 72?

Gerry Turner could give younger Bachelor stars a run for their money. How does the first Golden Bachelol stay in shape at age 72? Keep reading for all the details about his diet and exercise regimen.
Who Is Gerry Turner?
When he was announced as the first Golden Bachelor earlier this year, Gerry Turner was 71. He’s since had a birthday, which will feature on this season of the reality show.
Turner is a retired restauranter from Indiana. As he mentioned in the season premiere, he lives in a beautiful lakeside home he purchased shortly before his late wife, Toni, unexpectedly passed away in 2017.
He called the home their “dream house,” but now he’s looking for someone new to share it with. His two adult daughters encouraged him to apply for the senior dating show and they, along with his two granddaughters, are likely to appear during the season.
Fans are still getting to know Gerry Turner, but many might be wondering one thing – how does the 72-year-old stay in such great shape?
His Relatively Simple Diet
The Golden Bachelor is breaking every misconception viewers have about life as a senior citizen. All 22 of Turner’s contestants are between the ages of 60 and 75 but look 20 years younger.
Gerry Turner himself hardly looks 50, let alone 72. During a recent feature in GQ, the reality star newbie shared insight into how he keeps his body healthy.
As a former restauranter, Gerry Turner knows food. So, it’s no surprise that he knows how to fuel his body with the right foods. He told the outlet that he splurges on a “big breakfast” every Sunday that might consist of either oatmeal, Grape Nuts cereal, or scrambled eggs or toast.
He said it depends on what he had for dinner the night before. If he ate a dinner high in protein, he’ll opt for oatmeal or cereal. “If I went maybe a little light on the protein the night before, I’ll make sure that I have eggs for breakfast,” he added.
What does he typically eat for dinner? The outlet notes that Turner’s favorite protein is salmon, which he loves to grill outside at his lakefront property.
His lunch is a simple sandwich and yogurt.
But his workout is the most impressive part of his health routine.
How The Golden Bachelor Stays In Shape At 72
On the premiere of Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner shared his love of pickleball. In the GQ profile, he revealed just how much he loves the game. He plays pickleball three times a week.
“I spend three mornings a week—about three hours each morning—playing some pretty vigorous pickleball. I get my exercise that way.” – Gerry Turner, GQ.
He shared a photo on his new Instagram page that showed his love of pickleball. The photo also pokes fun at his moment on the Golden Bachelor involving a cupcake. During the show, he brought out a cupcake during a private moment with Theresa to celebrate her birthday. She ended up kissing some of the cupcake frosting off his face.
In the Instagram photo, Gerry Turner leans in close to one of his pickleball teammates who has frosting on their faces. “Suddenly, cupcakes are a thing with pickleballers,” he captioned the photo, causing one of his daughters to reply, “Omg Dad!!!!!” in the comment section.
