The star of The Golden Bachelor isn’t taking any chances when it comes to finding love again. What ‘firm’ rule did Gerry Turner set for himself? Keep reading to learn more about how he approached the senior dating show.

The Golden Bachelor Premiere Is Almost Here

Bachelor Nation fans have been begging ABC to make the Bachelor franchises more diverse. The network finally listened, but maybe not the way fans intended.

In 2020, ABC teased the idea of a senior version of the popular dating show. However, the concept stalled amid the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this year, they announced it was back on track, and they picked Gerry Turner to be the first Golden Bachelor.

The 72-year-old father (and grandfather) is from Indiana and is a retired restaurateur. But unlike the leads from other versions of the show, Turner isn’t looking for his first love. He’s looking for a second chance at love after his beloved wife, Toni, passed away in 2017.

The Golden Bachelor premieres in less than a week. Bachelor Nation fans, mark Thursday, Sept. 28, in your calendar. Not only does Gerry Turner’s journey to a second chance at love start, Season 9 of Bachelor In Paradise premieres! It all begins at 8 PM on ABC.

What Advice Did Gerry Turner’s Bachelor Superfan Daughters Give Him?

Gerry Turner’s two daughters, Angie and Jenny, are Bachelor Nation fans and convinced their dad to apply for the franchise’s senior citizen spin-off.

During an interview with TV Insider ahead of the premiere, he shared some advice his daughters gave him. The outlet asked if Angie and Jenny cautioned him against the Fantasy Suite dates, but they had something else in mind.

According to Turner, his daughters advised him against kissing any of the women on the first night. ā€œJust donā€™t do that. Get to know them first,” they told their dad.

However, he admits that he “failed” at their advice. So, fans will have to tune in to see who gets Gerry Turner’s first kiss.

Gerry Turner isn’t looking to replace his late wife. He told the outlet that he’s looking for “character, values and the ability to be an equal partner.”

But he’s less worried about the 22 women he’s simultaneously dating on the reality show than himself. The Golden Bachelor star told TV Insider that he set a ‘firm’ rule for himself on the show.

He said that he’s “pretty firm with the rule” not to compare any of the women to his late wife, Toni. “Itā€™s an altogether different game at 70 than with your high school sweetheart,” he said.
