Last week, Jill Duggar Dillard released her new book, Counting the Cost. In her memoir, she detailed her time on her family’s TLC shows. Along the way, she exposed some of her family’s harmful beliefs, conflicts, and more. One huge part of the book was her bombshell reveals about the money she made while on TLC. She received pitiful pay after filming for nearly a decade.
How did Jim Bob Duggar react when he learned about the book?
With so many bombshell reveals in Jill’s book, fans understand that Jim Bob may not have been happy to learn that it was in the works. In a new interview with Today, Jill explained what happened when her family found out she was writing the book.
In the family group chat, Jim Bob sent a message threatening Jill’s siblings. According to Jill, he said, “This is so sad.” Then, she explained that he was “basically threatening that if anybody speaks out against him or my mom that they would be cut out of the inheritance.”
It got so bad that Derick threatened to get a protective order against Jim Bob. Based on what Jill has shared, it doesn’t sound like it actually came to the point of actually getting one. Also in her interview, the Duggar daughter admitted that things are “complicated” and that “we just had to draw some pretty strict boundaries and just put things in a healthier place.”
Jill added that her relationship with her father is “pretty toxic,” which is why they’ve decided to cut off “individual contact.”

In a statement to People, Jim Bob and Michelle said that they love all 19 of their kids and acknowledged their conflicts. They went on to say, “We do not believe the best way to resolve conflicts, facilitate forgiveness and reconciliation, or to communicate through difficulties is through the media or in a public forum so we will not comment.”
