Val Chmerkovskiy Gushes Over His Favorite Dance Partner
When it comes to former dance partners, one will always hold a special place in Val Chmerkovskiy‘s heart.
As of Dancing With The Stars Season 32, the 37-year-old has competed with 19 different partners. He’s won the Mirrorball Trophy twice and made it to the finale a handful of times. Before appearing on DWTS, he competed in ballroom competitions with a wide range of other partners.
But even so, one dance partner in particular is his favorite. Who is it?
Val Chmerkovskiy is very fond of one dance partner
Over the years, many DWTS fans have noticed that Val Chmerkovskiy seems to do his best work when he is matched with younger partners. He came in second place with then-teenaged Zendaya in Season 16. And in Season 23, he and Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez won the Mirrorball Trophy.
When he partnered with influencer Olivia Jade in Season 30, Val said she was one of his favorite partners of all time. This year, he’s competing with Marvel actress Xochitl Gomez. Many fans think they’re going to go pretty far in the competition.
But who is his overall favorite dance partner? When asked in an interview, Val had an immediate answer.
On the Best Friend Energy podcast, Val revealed that his wife Jenna Johnson is by far his favorite. She may be one of his fiercest competitors on Dancing With The Stars, but he adores her and the life they share together. In January, they welcomed their first child together, Rome Valentin Chmerkovskiy.
“My life has changed because of [her,]” Val told PEOPLE shortly after proposing to Jenna in 2018. “And I find myself to be the best version of myself that I’ve ever been. She’s awesome.”
This year, Jenna is teaming up with model and actor Tyson Beckford to give Val and Xochitl a run for their money. Although both Jenna and Val are extremely competitive, DWTS doesn’t seem to get in the way of their marriage.
However, Val did mention that this year is going to be a bit challenging as they try to balance parenthood and competitive dance.
What can fans expect from this upcoming season?
Dancing With The Stars fans are excited to see Jenna Johnson return to the ballroom. She sat out during Season 31 due to her pregnancy. Val went on to finish in second place alongside Bachelor Nation’s Gabby Windey.
Jenna didn’t compete last year, but she expressed her excitement to return for Season 32. And without a doubt, she’s been brainstorming ideas for costumes and routines all year long.
