‘The View’ Matthew McConaughey Shuts Joy Behar Up Fast
Hailing from the state of Texas, 53-year-old actor Matthew McConaughey was a guest on a recent episode of The View. Sitting down at the center of the table between the co-hosts, it was Whoopi Goldberg who kicked things off by introducing the “fabulous” man of many hats. Whoopi Goldberg explained he added author to his incredibly long resume. And, he had just released a new children’s book called “Just Because.”
During his segment on the show, the co-hosts discussed all sorts of things with the actor. Two of the hot topics, however, were gun violence and parenthood. After talking about gun violence and school shootings, Matthew McConaughey was asked if he ever thought about running for office. He wasn’t opposed to the idea. He just wanted to make sure it was where he thought he would be most useful. And, for now, he was busy raising three children to go out and change the world. So, that was where his focus needed to be.
Joy Behar interjected the conversation and asked Matthew McConaughey if he believed he could even get elected in the state of Texas continuing his views on gun ownership. In response, the actor’s mood shifted as he became very stern while wagging his finger at Joy and shutting things down. What exactly did Matthew McConaughey say to Joy Behar? Keep reading for the details.
The View Matthew McConaughey Gets Stern With Joy Behar
Joy Behar posed an interesting question during the conversation with the actor and the panel. Namely, she questioned if Matthew McConaughey even stood a chance at getting elected in the state of Texas considering he was someone who was anti-gun. The actor paused and thought about his answer for a minute. His mood quickly changed from the friendly and goofy tone he had had through most of the conversation. Collecting his thoughts, he faced Joy Behar and wagged his finger while giving her a stern answer.
One thing about me and politics is, to give you a direct statement right there would be playing a game that I’m not interested in playing. To give you a direct statement right there…”
Joy Behar very quickly picked up what Matthew McConaughey was putting down. She agreed he didn’t have to play the game if he didn’t want to. The topic swiftly came to an end after that. The look that washed over his face before the segment ended suggested he was shocked she had the audacity to ask such a question.
Applauded For Not Playing Her Game
Fans of The View agree it felt like Joy Behar was leading the actor into a trap with that type of question. Fortunately, he was able to collect himself and give a wonderful response. Here’s what one fan of the talk show had to say in the comments of a video clip featuring this segment on YouTube:
‘That’s a game I’m not willing to play right now’. The trap was there and he didn’t play. Very well done. Matthew is smarter than most people realize. And I highly respect the focus on his children and family… because that’s where mine is.
Another chimed in: “His response to Joy is exactly what we need in politics today. Not only that but he actually supports the 2nd, He advocates for responsible ownership just like all responsible owners do. I’d vote for him for President.”
