‘MBFFL’ Fans Roast Whitney Way Thore For Exploiting Babs
My Big Fat Fabulous Life premieres tonight September 5, and TLC fans roast Whitney Way Thore for allegedly exploiting her mom, Babs. Last season, Babs featured heavily following her stroke. In fact, the medical crisis finally ended her life. People were unhappy about that but airing the funeral in the new season of MBFFL definitely doesn’t sit well with viewers.
MBFFL Whitey Way Thore Lambasted Critics Of The Funeral
After her mom passed away, the TLC star posted about how the family decided to throw the funeral open to the public. Apparently, Babs’ husband Glenn made the decision. Furthermore, he okayed airing it in the new season of the show. That got a lot of people angry, and his daughter lambasted them for calling it out. She reminded them that her dad read the comments, and it wasn’t right to say hurtful things to an old man.
Whitney Way Thore and her dad both talked about how the send-off for Babs was similar to that of Queen Elizabeth. Millions of people from across the world tuned in to watch that. As Babs was so deeply loved by TLC fans, Glenn decided to allow people to watch and share in the grief. However, the backlash is strong and many people accused them of exploiting the death of the support character on the show.
TLC Fans Are Still Convinced Of Exploitation By Whitney Way Thore
Despite denials of exploitation in an interview on YouTube with ET, viewers remain unconvinced. In the interview, she spoke about her anger because of accusations that she makes “money” off her mom’s death. The My Big Fat Fabulous Life star claimed, “I don’t make any more money no matter what I film.” She added, “I don’t get extra many for putting my trauma on TV.”
Over on Reddit, it becomes clear that many people do think that she makes money and exploits her mom by doing so. Whitney Way Thore, argued u/Education_Easy, does, in fact, make money off Babs. They wrote:
Whit – yes, we know you don’t “make more money” piecemeal by filming life events – you make more money from ENTIRE SEASONS of your show revolving around exploiting Babs. You would not have had a season 11 without Babs’ passing. So yeah, you do make more money by using your mother.”
My Big Fat Fabulous Life Critics Discuss Alleged Exploitation
Whitney Way Thore also talked a lot about an “open casket,” and potential viewers really hope the show does not poke a camera into that. Talking about other aspects of alleged exploitation, one member of the r/MyBigFatFabulousLife community said, “i wish i could upvote this exponentially…In the end, everything comes back to Shameless Shitney.”
Another commenter opined, “Everything I’ve seen and heard about this season makes me not want to watch. No desire to see anyone’s final day and definitely don’t want to watch the funeral especially is they show bab’s lying in a coffin. No one sane would film this sh-t. TLC has hit a new low and Whitney will literally do whatever to keep the money coming in.”
Do you believe that whether she made the final decision to air the funeral or not, Whitney probably had at least some say in what comes in the new season? Do you think that the family and the network are actually exploiting an old lady who was so ill and then passed away? Did you know that TLC fans are so irritated and angry that many of them threatened to “boycott” the show? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.

I don’t feel the family exploited Bab’s passing at all. It was the only possible way that all her fans would be able to “attend” her funeral and pay their respect to a beloved woman. People didn’t have to watch the episode, and should really keep their hurtful comments to themselves. The family is hurting enough without being further hurt by words. My sincere condolences to the family and rest peacefully, Babs.
