Al Shares Some Sweet Snaps With His Granddaughter

Before going missing on The Today Show, Al Roker took to social media for some sweet family snaps.

The proud grandpa welcomed his first granddaughter in July. Baby Clara is the daughter of Al’s daughter Courtney and her husband Wes. And the talk show meteorologist is on Cloud 9 over his status as a grandfather. This week, Al took to Instagram to share an update on baby Clara just months after she entered the world and charmed her grandpa.

In the first of two pics, Al was holding baby Clara on his lap. They were gazing into each other’s eyes, and they both looked curious and enraptured with one another. Baby Clara’s wide-eyed stare took in her grandpa’s smile, and grandpa was clearly saying something to the curious tot. In the second photo, Clara appeared to be napping on Al’s chest. The duo seemed to be seated in the shade outside, and Al’s relaxed and delighted face told the story of a man who is enjoying the role of grandfather.

Al captioned the snaps, “Here’s to my little Sky Clara being here 2 months. That went fast.”

And it was likely family that took Al Roker away from the studio on Monday.

The Labor Day holiday kicked into high gear on Monday, and the show opened with a few major changes. Al was missing, and so were Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and Craig Melvin. Filling in for Hoda, Savannah, and Craig, were Jacob Soboroff, Sheinelle Jones, and Tom Llamas. Dylan Dreyer took Al’s place once again at the weather map after taking his place last week.

None of the fill-in hosts offered an explanation as to why the main four were missing. However, the show’s main hosts have been taking time off in turns to spend with family as summer comes to a close. With today being a federal holiday, the massive lineup shakeup was likely related to the holiday weekend. And for Al, whose birthday is August 20, the end of summer is a time to celebrate the season of his birth with the people he loves the most. But with September in full swing, schools starting back, and Fall approaching, the hosts may take fewer days off in the coming weeks.

The main four hosts will likely return to the studio this week.
