Bethenny Frankel Says Andy Cohen Despises Her
Bethenny Frankel has been doing a lot of talking lately about the Real Housewives franchise. A lot of her recent comments came after the SAG-AFTRA strike shut down Hollywood production. While reality TV shows will start to dominate TV during the shutdown, the former The Real Housewives of New York City mentioned how that didn’t seem to be fair.
Here is what Bethenny has said and why she thinks Andy might be holding a grudge.
Bethenny Frankel says reality TV needs a union
When the SAG-AFTRA actors joined the WGA on strike, it shut down Hollywood. Like the last time strikes shut down Hollywood, reality TV will step up and cover many of those viewing hours. However, in recent interviews, Bethenny Frankel said that reality TV stars need a union as well. She went as far as to say that all the Bravo stars should boycott the Bravocon 2023 fan event to show unity with the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Because there is no union for reality TV stars, they can’t refuse to work on their shows or they will break their contracts and could face legal problems. However, for something like Bravocon, there is nothing that forces them to contribute to the fan convention. This would be, for Bethenny, a good way to show they are serious about the idea of a union. Bethenny said that Bravo makes a lot of money off the shows and the cast doesn’t share in any of those profits.
Bethenny also said that reality TV stars are often manipulated and their treatment is “grotesque and depraved.” She went on to say that the production gives excess alcohol to cast members and then deprives them of food and sleep. She also accused Barvo of “covering up acts of sexual violence.” This, she said, negatively affects the mental health of the cast members.
Bethenny Frankel feels Andy Cohen despises her for her beliefs
This is a lot of bad things that Bethenny Frankel has said about Bravo and the Real Housewives franchise. She talked about it again this week on the Literally! with Rob Lowe podcast. The title of the episode was simply, “Torching the Kingdom,” and Bethenny went to town again.
“I can tell you with great certainty that everyone at Bravo likely despises me, including Andy Cohen, because it’s very personal and because they have to protect the realm,” Bethenny said. She is working with lawyers and the SAG-AFTRA union is supporting her efforts to unionize reality TV stars. Some of the things that Bethenny wants changed are the NDAs that don’t allow reality TV stars to share bits of their own lives with the public.
She claims this includes moments of unlawful acts in the workplace. However, Bravo has since said that the NDA is only to protect future storylines from being spoiled. The network said it does not prohibit a star from bringing harassment or discrimination into the open (via PEOPLE).
Do you think Andy Cohen actually despises Bethenny Frankel for her comments? Does she have a point about the reality TV show stars’ need for a union? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
