‘Love Is Blind’: Why Is Nick Thompson About To Be Homeless?
Is Nick Thompson from Love Is Blind Season 2 about to become homeless?
Nick found love on the Netflix reality series with Danielle Ruhl and got married. However, they ultimately couldn’t make their marriage work and split up.
Despite having a successful career in software, Nick Thompson is now unemployed, struggling to find a new job, and is in danger of losing his home.
What exactly happened?
Nick Thompson believes Love Is Blind severely underpaid the cast
According to a new interview with The Daily Mail, Nick Thompson received $10,000 for his run on Love Is Blind. That might seem like a lot of money at first. But keep in mind that it took 10 weeks to film the show and Nick didn’t receive any residuals.
After doing the math, Nick believes he made about $7.14 an hour while working long days. He felt like he was essentially treated like a prisoner. And notably, that’s less money than the national minimum wage.
“When you think about the amount of money that’s being made, and the way that it’s the path for future seasons, and the fact that anyone can go on and watch me … and I’m going to be homeless,” the Love Is Blind star told The Daily Mail. “I lost my job last November. I’m having an incredibly hard time finding [a new] one.”
The 38-year-old said he has experience as a VP in software, but he can’t find a new job because “no one will take [him] seriously” after his run on the show.
“I burned through my savings that cashed out my 401(k). I’ve got two months left in the bank to pay my mortgage,” Nick admitted.
The Netflix star alleges the network essentially owned them
Although Nick Thompson didn’t have a great experience on reality television, he now has his own podcast where he speaks out about the traumatic experience.
“You are filming 18 to 20 hours a day,” Nick continued in the interview with The Daily Mail. “And that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re always going to be on TV, but you’re mic’d up from the moment you get there in the morning, and you’re mic’d up all the way until you leave. Then when you go home at the end of the day, you’re locked in your hotel room without a key without your wallet without money without identification.”
The Love Is Blind Season 2 star went on to say that the stars should absolutely be considered employees since Netflix controlled their lives 24 hours a day while filming.
