The Today Show host and meteorologist Al Roker was replaced by Jacob Soboroff this week. With Al out at the show, fans were intrigued by his replacement. Here’s what we know about Jacob Soboroff and why Al is out at The Today Show.

Al’s Trouble In The Studio

Recently, Al Roker has been getting himself into trouble in the studio.

This week, Al fired off a sarcastic joke at the expense of NBC sportscaster Mike Tirico. Mike was calling into the studio from Paris, where he’s covering the network’s Countdown to Paris 2024 segment. It’s all centered on the upcoming Summer Olympics and the hype building around it. While talking about the building excitement, Mike mentioned that he has dined with the Mayor of Paris and the head of the International Olympics Committee. Al decided that Mike was bragging, and mocked him by saying, “Oh, look at me I’m Mike Tirico ooh Lala.” Mike politely reminded Al that he was just sharing information. Al may have laughed after Mike’s rejoinder, but it was clear that the sportscaster got the better of him.

Then on Thursday, things got tense between Al and co-host Craig Melvin. They were hosting a travel segment on Wednesday, and the studio’s video display didn’t sync correctly with what their guest was talking about. Instead of showing an indoor water park like it was supposed to, the video monitor showed someone jet skiing on the ocean. Al quipped, “That’s a huge water park.” And Craig snapped at him, “Shut up.” Fans have speculated that Craig’s clap back may have been revenge for Al’s comment last week when he called co-worker Dylan Dreyer a “cheapskate.”

On Thursday, Al was out of the studio.

Al Roker Replaced At Today By Jacob Soboroff

Al Roker was outside enjoying the NBC show’s first-ever epic “summer block party.”

Filling in for him in the studio was Jacob Soboroff. Jacob is a widely respected journalist and former MSNBC correspondent. While Al was out cavorting for the summer block party, Jacob was the perfect fill-in. He has experience with engaging journalism and storytelling. And Jacob has been noted for his diligent coverage of the immigration crisis on the US and Mexican border.

Jacob also authored a book, “Separated: Inside an American Tragedy,” on the topic. If anyone can fill in for Al’s legendary shoes and bring some peace to the studio while he’s out, Jacob is the one.

  1. Al needs to go is right, he’s awful anymore. Jacob was a breath of fresh air. I turn the channel when Al speaks.

  2. Al thinks he’s great and he is soooo boring and tries to fit in when he don’t.

I stopped watching every time he is on a show or broadcast. He has no personality! and should have been gone 10 years ago. The network was looking for a way to get rid of him and he gave it to them.

    1. The entire cast of Today Show needs to go………………… AL, Hoda, Savanah, Craig & Sherry? All are stale. Stopped watching them years ago. They do not project all the news just attack people’s politics because they are so liberal bias.

  3. I like Al he was an loyal employee; have gone thru the same thing with a larger bank one soon finds out that one is just a Number…. in Corp America. Good bye ; Al I am sorry, welcome to the old folks farm with many of us. Take Your 401k $ and enjoy sleeping in and bein on your own…..OH….and to hell with all the networks. No one watch them that much either….it all on the internet or cable. That is the reality of the day,. HOPE YOU ENJOY YOURSELF….YOU WERE JUST A NUMBER NOT AN EMPLOYYEE OR PERSON AS YOU THOT YOU WERE. SAD IS it NOT? I, BUT it is REALITY !!

  4. so tired of every ten minute report of urgent “the hottest” or most of any weather. It has become a joke. Hoda is also a joke now. She is always about herself. Every segment has I, me, my. I do not need her story, let the guest tell theirs. She is not reliable since “everything” is the ” best ever”! We need reports not opinions. Savanah” had” cred and now is down that same hole as a joke! Craig Melvin is the most believable and Dylan Dryer is credible. Craig and Dylan could carry the show better than Hoda and Savanah. Al has become the clown–stay with the smuckers!

  5. I stopped watching the Today Show years ago because of Al R. He wasn’t ever funny, way overpaid by millions of dollars per year. He wasn’t worth the price of admission. The egos of most of the personalities are high and sometimes overdone.

    1. I agree to also apply this to politicians. plenty are old and have been there too long. we need term limits because a 70 year old, is just that OLD for politics.

  6. Stop watching it awhile ago with the fighting between Hoda and Savanna. I just wanted to see the news and all the other stuff.

  7. I have been a loyal fan of the NBC today show for when Katie Kouric was still there, however, Al Roker, is obnoxious, he interrupts people constantly, he is always trying to make it his “1 Man Show” bringing the attention always back to himself. It’s not funny, its not newsworthy, and its typically condescending. Is this what NBC wants to be defined. I agree, it is way overdue that he should peacefully retire, Jacob would be an outstanding replacement. It is my home that HR, et al sit down with him and read all of the negative press, including this, until he gets it, that is if he doesn’t interrupt you with something outlandish and inappropriate!

  8. Yes, Al, Hoda, especially Savannah, she is so nasty when she interviews known Republicans. Her little lip starts to snarl!
Craig and Dylan are great. So glad they are getting rid of Chuck Todd!!

  9. I LOVE AI! He is why I watch. I’ve watched him from way back. He does get obnoxious at times and does interrupt at times as well. I get disappointed when he does, but that doesn’t take away all the whole day and his personality. Unfortunately when I am in New York it’s on the weekend. I would love to be on the Plaza to see him.

  10. Let Al retire and leave gracefully. Then, I will return to watch the show if the rest of the crew will stay on topic and not indulge in personal air time.

  11. My personal opinion is that Al Roker should have be gone years ago. I haven’t seen Jacob yet, but any replacement would be a good replacement.

  12. like the video out there where al who is triggered with obviously from his programming a trigger word “holy ghost” he looks forward, deer in the headlights, frozen. he has fans maybe they could buy him a network and he can be a star again.
