‘Today’ Co-Host Stands Up For Himself Against Al Roker?

A host from The Today Show stood up for himself against meteorologist and co-host Al Roker this week.

Al is known for his weather sense, sharp wit, and occasional sarcastic zingers. But one co-host had enough with Al this week. He shut the popular co-host down after standing up for himself in a segment this week during the show. Read on to find out who stood up to Al, and what was said.

Al Roker Goes After Sportscaster In Paris

This isn’t the only time this week that things have gotten tense between Al Roker and his co-hosts.

This week, NBC sportscaster Mike Tirico called into the studio from Paris. He’s currently on assignment for the network’s Countdown to Paris 2024 segment. They’re starting to cover the hype around the Summer Olympics in 2024. An excited Mike talked about the fact that he’s had lunch with the Mayor of Paris, and the head of the International Olympics Committee.

Al decided that Mike was bragging, and called him out on it. Al jokingly said that Mike was name-dropping bigwigs. He then imitated Mike talking about his experiences in Paris, saying, “Oh, look at me I’m Mike Tirico ooh Lala.” Al laughed, but the sportscaster didn’t take it lying down. Mike clapped back at him, “I’m just a reporter, sharing facts with my friends in the morning.” Al kept laughing, but Mike took the win from that exchange.

Things were a little less light-hearted between Al Roker and another co-host this week, however.

Al frequently takes little playful jabs at co-host Craig Melvin, who usually fends him off patiently. But this week, he seemed a little fed up after Al made one comment. During Wednesday’s episode, Al and Craig were interviewing travel writer Mark Ellwood. Mark is known for his experience and expertise in the world of travel, especially luxury travel. During the “Last Minute Summer Travel Deals” segment on “Today’s 3rd Hour”, Al and Craig joined Savannah Sellers to talk about top destinations to visit this time of year. Mark enthusiastically talked about Wisconsin, New Hampshire, New Orleans, and Louisiana, before mentioning destinations in the West.

While he was speaking about the Sierra Nevada Resort in California, the show’s video display matched up. But then, he mentioned an indoor water park at the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Instead of showing the water park, the Today Show’s video display mistakenly played a video clip of someone jet-skiing on what appeared to be the ocean. Not missing a beat, Al Roker sarcastically quipped, “That’s a huge water park.” Craig snapped, “Shut up,” leaving a chastened Al chuckling.

Craig’s Revenge For Al’s Jokes

The snap comes a week after Al referred to one of their colleagues as a “cheapskate.” It appears that Craig was just waiting for a chance to get back at the snarky meteorologist. Al is known for playfully ribbing his co-hosts on the set, but sometimes they fight back.
