‘Today’ Why Did Al Roker Get Labeled As ‘Insensitive’?

Al Roker’s co-host Dylan Dreyer took to social media recently to share an upsetting moment amid her recent family vacation. The Today Show meteorologist was among many who popped into the comments with a few words for Dylan about what had happened to her.

Unfortunately for Al, what he had to say in the comment was not well-received. In fact, he was quickly ripped for being insensitive about her situation. What exactly happened to Dylan Dreyer during her family vacation that was so upsetting? And, what did Al Roker say that is being written off as insensitive? Keep reading for the surprising details.

Today Show: What Happened To Dylan Dreyer?

As those who follow Dylan Dreyer on social media know, she’s been on an exciting vacation with her family. Like many other talk show personalities (and TV personalities in general), she has taken to social media to share bits and pieces of her vacation with her followers.

Sadly, however, she had some somber news to share with her fans. During her vacation, she managed to lose both her luggage and her family’s luggage.

Yesterday, Dylan took to Instagram to share a photo of herself with her husband and their three boys: Russell, Oliver, and Calvin. The family sat together on an airport bench with huge smiles on their faces. Unfortunately, something happened. The airport lost their luggage.

“Family vacation! Little did we know these would be the clothes for the whole trip because our luggage is lost in Amsterdam. We’re not in Amsterdam. All that work packing…” Dylan penned as she sounded understandably upset about the situation.

Al Roker Offers Advice, Comes Off As Insensitive

Now, Al Roker actually popped into the comments of this Instagram post twice. Once to declare a simple “wow” and once to offer what appeared to be a tidbit of advice for his co-host. The advice Al Roker dropped into the comments, however, rubbed Dylan’s followers the wrong way as many agreed it had a thick layer of “I know better” attitude attached to it.

One follower was quick to note it was “insensitive” for Al to leave a comment on his friend’s post when she was clearly struggling with a difficult situation. Others noted that the airport rules were different when Al Roker’s children were younger. Many also challenged Al Roker asking how he managed to pack everything he needed for a vacation in a carry-on bag.

Many of Dylan Dreyer’s followers found the post relatable and joined Al in offering other advice for future trips. One follower noted the airport would reimburse for clothing purchases made because of the lost luggage. Another encouraged investing in air tags to track the luggage. A third recommended shopping at secondhand stores for clothing to wear during the trip. And, a fourth follower suggested always keeping an extra outfit in the carry-on bag or wearing a second layer of clothing just to be safe.
