Al Roasted Craig On Super Bowl Segment

This isn’t the first time Al Roker has gotten a joke in at the expense of his co-hosts. Back in February, The Today Show was running a Super Bowl segment. Business and data reporter Brian Chung joined Al and co-host Craig Melvin for a “by the numbers” segment. They were looking at how much each host would be spending for the big football weekend, whether at home or at the Super Bowl.

Craig opened the segment, followed by Brian explaining how expensive ticket prices were. Brian added that for 2023, Super Bowl attendees could expect to spend around $18 for a hot dog and beer. Craig chimed in that it was “shameful” for just a hot dog and beer to cost a whopping $18. He joked, “They should throw in the hot dog.”

Al playfully mocked Craig, saying that he could envision his co-host at the game with his son, Dell. Al jokingly imitated Dell asking for a hot dog. He then imitated Craig responding, “No! I brought this bag of popcorn in here.” Al joked, “You eat that and be happy.” The table erupted in laughter. Craig pointed at Al and responded with a laugh, “You know me well.” Al responded with a chuckle, “Eat before you go.”

This week’s roasting of his co-hosts included a callback to that playful exchange in February.

On an Instagram Live video ahead of The Today Show filming on Tuesday, Al Roker pulled out his sharp tongue again. In the video, Al showed viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the show as they prepared to go live on air. Al turned to a stage manager, who confirmed that a lottery draw was coming up soon. The host then playfully took a shot at his co-hosts Dylan Dreyer and Craig Melvin. Al joked that they should all hit Dylan up for money, but of course, Al jokes, she “will not have it.” While Al says that “everyone knows” Craig is cheap, “Dylan is the secret cheapster.”

But Al then softened his joke by saying Dylan was “bringing the sunshine” in a yellow dress when she appeared on set ahead of filming.
