‘Pretty Little Liars’ FIRED Lindsey Shaw: Why?
After seven seasons, Pretty Little Liars came to an end on June 27, 2017. The series, however, remains a popular and binge-worthy show that can currently be streamed via HBO’s platform called MAX.
As fans of the series may recall, Lindsey Shaw played the role of Paige McCullers (Emily’s girlfriend) during a large chunk of the series. Now, Lindsey played the role of a pretty dynamic character in the series that was initially introduced as someone most fans didn’t care for. She, however, grew to be a character fans loved as her true feelings for Emily came out.
Unfortunately, Paige McCullers dipped from the series and so did any possibility of her as a potential endgame for Emily. Why did Lindsey Shaw exit the series? Turns out, she was fired from the show. And, the actress recently opened up about why the high-ups behind the curtain decided to let her go.

Sadly, the actress admits the creative team behind Pretty Little Liars made the difficult decision to fire her during Season 5 because she was struggling with drug addiction and had a toxic relationship with food.
When I had my drug problem and I was in between working on stuff, you know, I would never have to address my relationship with food because I was always like, ‘Oh, I could always just go get more Adderall.’ Do you know what I mean? And be okay with it. So it was really hard, and I especially — I got basically let go from Pretty Little Liars in season five because of the weight that I had lost, and it was really an embarrassing thing.”
She Recalls A Gentle, Caring Termination
Lindsey Shaw proceeded to recall the moment she learned she had been terminated from the show. The actress explained she was called into the creator’s office where she was told they were firing her. She admitted they made an effort to clarify her acting was fine before asking if she had a support circle to talk to. When Lindsey told them she had no one to lean on, the high-ups promised to assist her in getting help.
Lindsey Shaw continued to explain that not only was there so much care and compassion in letting her go but they allowed her to come back for a few episodes during the final season to say goodbye to the series she had been such a big part of.
She added: “It was really sweet because they brought me back in season 7 and it was so lovely of that writing team to see that relationship and that character out. But that was rough.”
