So why exactly did Kody Brown choose Las Vegas after he and his family fled Utah?

It’s a question that Sister Wives fans have mulled over for years. Since the Browns come from a fundamentalist LDS sect, a place nicknamed “Sin City” seemed like an odd choice.

Recently, Redditors decided to debate this issue and came up with some plausible answers. See what they had to say.

What made Las Vegas attractive to Kody Brown and crew?

Long-time Sister Wives fans remember that the series began at the family home in Utah. But they didn’t stay there long. In Season 2, the Browns packed up their lives and moved to Las Vegas, where they would stay until their move to Flagstaff years later.

But why Las Vegas?

“Was it ever explained why they chose Vegas?” one Redditor recently asked on the website. “I was rewatching the episodes when they decide to escape Lehi but can’t seem to find any bits where it’s explained why exactly they picked Las Vegas. Possibly I’ve missed it but it seemed like suddenly they’re house hunting there already and Mona is first introduced to the viewers.”

“The show and Kody played it off like Vegas was chosen because it was tolerant and progressive, therefore more accepting of their religious beliefs. However, we found out later that Robyn’s parents live in Vegas,” one Redditor replied. “Surely a total coincidence 🙄”

After this response, many other Reddit users chimed in and added that Robyn Brown likely influenced Kody to choose the Nevada city.

“I totally believe Vegas was chosen because of Robyn’s scheming in the background (just like Flagstaff) but they don’t seem to sit down and say ‘we’ve decided it’s Vegas,'” someone else added. “More screen time was used on Meri’s colonoscopy. I wonder if Kody took Christine and their kids for a Vegas hotel trip in the same way as she was taken to Flagstaff for a birthday trip. Christine was gushing how she loves Vegas.”

Did the family patriarch manipulate his wives to move?

After discussing Kody’s motivation for choosing Las Vegas, Redditors noticed something very interesting. Several pointed out that it seems that Kody Brown manipulated Christine into moving.

Out of all the wives, she typically puts up the most resistance when it comes to relocating. Before moving to Vegas, a few Redditors remembered that Kody took Christine on a trip there to show her around.

Wait a minute. Not sure what episode but Kody did take Christine and kids on a vacation to Las Vegas! She usually is the one he has to convince,” one Reddit user pointed out.

“Yes he did! … They announced to the kids that they were moving to Vegas one or two episodes later,” another Redditor replied. “So yeah, Kody did exactly the same thing to convince Christine about Vegas as he did about Flagstaff years later.”

So why do you think Kody Brown and the rest of the family chose Las Vegas for their new homes? Do you agree with what Redditors said? Don’t forget to share what you think in the comments.
