MTV Neglected To Pay Chelsea Houska‘s Final Paycheck?
Did MTV neglect to pay Chelsea Houska’s final paycheck? The Teen Mom alum was one of the most popular faces of the series, starting on 16 & Pregnant. Yet, she eventually left and moved on to HGTV with her husband, Cole DeBoer. So, what happened to that last MTV check? Read on for more details.
MTV Neglected To Pay Chelsea Houska‘s Final Paycheck?
Chelsea Houska has been on MTV since 16 & Pregnant when she was dating Adam Lind and the two found out they were expecting. Sadly, he was not able to commit to her and be the father or partner that she needed. She went on to raise their daughter, Aubree with help from her family. Yet, she and Lind still tried to make things work. Her life was followed later on Teen Mom and eventually, she started dating Cole Deboer. The two wed in 2016 and went on to have three more children with him playing a pivotal role in Aubree’s life. Unfortunately, in 2020, Chelsea shared that she was leaving the show.
Of course, she had become a fan favorite, especially with how much she had grown and gotten her life in order. Now, she has a clothing line and a show with Cole on HGTV. Yet, did MTV not pay Chelsea her final paycheck? According to The Sun, it turns out that it was actually members of Chelsea’s family who had money withheld. Currently, they are embroiled in a lawsuit with the consulting firm, Envy. They were allegedly not entitled to any earnings from MTV but that is up for dispute.
However, in 2016, Cole actually asked Sara Nemerov from Envy what to do about not being paid by MTV. Though she ultimately declined to assist him, it is what he wrote to her that stands out. “Looking for a little help/advice from you as well. MTV is very sh**ty and also shady when it comes to paying everyone.” Cole also added that MTV “forgot” to pay Aubree for two years. Finally, he and Chelsea Houska did the math for their pay and it did not add up correctly.
On Their Own
At this point, Cole DeBoer and Chelsea Houska are doing so well on their own, they do not need the MTV money. However, they clearly deserve it. Yet, this is not the first time MTV has been called out for not doing the right thing. Leah Messer just spoke out about how she felt that Teen Mom took advantage of her when she was hooked on painkillers. She believed they filmed her at her worst yet the show maintains they were following the rules of making a docuseries. It will be interesting to see how this whole lawsuit plays out.
