Tragic breaking news for Young and the Restless fans as Brett Hadley has been confirmed dead at the age of 92.

As fans of Y&R will recall, the soap star played the role of police detective Carl Williams who had zero tolerance for nonsense. Brett Hadley played the role of Carl Williams on Young and the Restless from the years 1980 to 1990 and came back to play the role for another year from 1998 to 1999. When his character returned to the show in 1998, Carl was suffering from amnesia after being violently beaten. Thus, kicked off his new life under the name Jim Bradley.

Young and the Restless alum dead at 92

Soap Opera Digest was the first to report on Brett Hadley’s death early this morning. Some outlets are reporting his cause of death has not been made public as of yet. But, The Hollywood Reporter reports the soap start passed away on June 14th at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital citing sepsis as his official cause of death.

This Young and the Restless alum was born in Lousiville, Kentucky on September 25, 1930.

Mary Ann Halpin, a dear friend of the former soap star, took to Facebook to issue a heartbreaking statement about his passing:

It is with a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye to my sweet friend Brett Hadley. He has been my friend since I was 19 years old. We were in an acting class and were the bad kids in the class. We sat in the back and giggled… I will miss his playful and deep conversation, his funny, flirty giggle and twinkling eyes. He took his last bow and gracefully left us yesterday.
