Early this morning TMZ reported the iconic songwriter’s daughter Dr. Jenn Mann confirmed her mother passed away on Thursday. In an official statement, she doted on her mother as being the greatest gift anyone in her family could ask for.

She was my best friend, confidant, and my partner in crime and an idol and trailblazer for women in music.”

Cynthia Weil has a truly incredible collection of songs attached to her resume including:

  • The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” and “You’re My Soul And Inspiration”
  • Dolly Parton’s “Here You Come Again”
  • The Crystals’ “Uptown”
  • The Drifters’ and George Benson’s “On Broadway”
  • The Animals’ “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place”

She also penned songs for Paul Revere & The Raiders, Chaka Khan, The Ronettes, and even Kanye West.

While she was talented, she did write many of these incredible hits with her partner and husband, Barry Mann. Barry and Cynthia were married to each other for 62 beautiful years.

Her Success Spanned Many Decades

Over the course of her songwriting career with her husband, the duo were nominated for an Academy Award, and they won two Grammys. Cynthia Weil and her husband Barry also became the very first recipients of the National Academy of Songwriters Life Achievement Award.

During her youth, Cynthia Weil dabbled in singing, dancing, and acting. She went on to be the protege of songwriter Frank Loesser. With her husband beside her, she penned major hits during the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Passing away at the age of 82, her cause of death was not part of her official death report. Many of her fans assume her cause of death may have been related to her age. As a songwriter who dabbled in working with artists across so many different genres of music, her talent is one that will be missed by many in the music industry.
