Hoda Kotb And Al Roker Leave ‘Today Show’ For A Good Reason
Fans watching Today Show grew confused when two of its biggest stars left the show – Hoda Kotb and Al Roker. After the show replaced them with Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin on the desk and Dylan Dreyer for the weather, fans wanted to know what was going on.
Here is where Hoda and Al went and why leaving the show was such a big deal.
Hoda Kotb and Al Rocker leave Today Show
The event in question happened on the Monday episode of Today Show. During the episode, Hoda stepped away from the desk. This caused co-host Savannah Guthrie to be left without her partner. Instead, she brought in two new anchors – Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin to replace Hoda. Not only that, but Al Rocker was not there to give the weather, and Dylan Dreyer replaced him.
However, for fans who were concerned about the absence of two of their top stars, there was a good reason for this. Hoda and Al didn’t actually leave Today Show, but they went to take on a special assignment.
Hoda Kotb and Al Rocker “hit the road” to go to honor the healthcare professionals in New York for National Nurses Week. “We are going to show our appreciation for the nurses at a couple of area hospitals,” Hoda said when the cameras cut them after they left the show. Al said that there are hundreds of nurses who “shine day in and day out” that they are there to honor.
The Today Show stars were shown at a hospital in New York City. Behind them was a large group of nurses that cheered them on at the time. Hoda and Al then spoke to the nurses and shared the stories of their struggles and hardships while helping people.
Hoda Kotb emotional on Today Show
Hoda Kotb has a strong connection with the nurses and healthcare workers, so this was an important moment for her. While there is often lighthearted talk and banter on Today Show, this was a very emotional segment and honored the healthcare workers.
In 2007, Hoda Kotb dealt with a breast cancer diagnosis. She ended up undergoing a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. She has since become an advocate for breast cancer awareness. Fans of Today Show know all about this battle as she allowed cameras to follow her in her cancer battle.
This also allowed Hoda to understand how important the nurses and healthcare workers were in her treatment and recovery. She has always talked about how the nurses took care of her during this time, and she was ready to pay homage to them during National Nurses Week.
