‘The View’ Goes Off Script, Whoopi Confirms Writers On Strike
The View went off script today and Whoopi Goldberg confirmed they would be shaking things up amid the Writers Guild of America Strike. As Tv Shows Ace previously reported, Hollywood writers all around the United States went on strike when the clock struck midnight and the day rolled over into May 2nd. Unfortunately, this meant an immediate black-out for late-night talk shows until further notice.
Unsurprisingly, viewers wondered what this would mean for daytime talk shows. Could shows like The View continue to function with no writers? Well, a new episode of The View did air today (May 2nd). But, Whoopi Goldberg was pretty quick to clue viewers into what was going on behind the scenes. Namely, she warned everyone that they were going off script as they currently didn’t have any writers.
The View goes off script, Whoopi Goldberg confirms writers on strike
At the very beginning of the episode, Whoopi Goldberg did what she could to silence the excited audience so she could talk about a massive shakeup.
“So, you know how we’re always talking about how we’re very different than most other shows?” She said to both the audience and her co-hosts.
Then, she proceeded to warn everyone that because of the writer’s strike, they were currently going off-script as they did NOT have any writers to work with.
She explained, “As you know, there is a writer’s strike going on, and so we don’t have writers, ok?”
Her co-hosts all nodded to indicate they understood Whoopi Goldberg as she continued to speak. Whoopi proceeded to warn everyone this would be a different kind of show.
“So, you’re going to hear how it would be, when it’s now, you know, slicked up.”
Co-hosts struggle without writers
The audience laughed as Joy Behar added to the conversation. It, however, sounded like she was struggling to keep up with the conversation.
Joy added: “We don’t have writers today. We usually do have writers. It’s not like we never have writers.”
Whoopi Goldberg joked it was clear that Joy wasn’t listening to what she said.
Alyssa Farah Griffin proceeded to jump into the conversation pointing out that this situation was EXACTLY why they needed writers.
What did you think about watching The View with Whoopi Goldberg and her co-hosts going off script? Do you think they can handle not having writers? Or, will the show eventually stop airing new episodes?
