Katy Perry spoke out about bullying claims. The American Idol judge has been in the hot seat this season. Initially, fans were annoyed with her overdramatic attempts to steal the spotlight from the contestants. Now, they’re noticing the way she treats them. See what the pop star had to say.

Bullied American Idol contestants?

Some fans feel that Katy Perry bullied a 16-year-old American Idol contestant. They didn’t like the way she treated Paige Anne, who works at Tropical Sno in Idaho. Paige tried to sweeten over the judges with one of her favorite snow cone recipes.

Katy Perry didn’t seem pleased. When she took a sip, Paige informed her that it had “blue raspberry, with watermelon and sour spray.” Katy said “Oh” with a frown on her face. The judge also wasn’t impressed with Paige’s performance.

“In the beginning, it was just ice,” Katy Perry sternly said. “Not a whole lotta flavor. So, it was a real flip. It was like, she’s not ready and then at the end it was like, OK, she may be able to compete.”

Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie gave Paige the “yeses” she needed to make it through to Hollywood. However, Katy Perry wouldn’t budge. She told her that she wasn’t ready for the big time yet. American Idol fans took to the comment section to react.

Most called her out for shaming the teen. Others have accused her of bullying other contestants, including Sara Beth Liebe. Sara shared in a now-deleted TikTok video that she didn’t like the way Katy treated her during her audition. She felt embarrassed by how it played out on national TV.

Katy Perry speaks out on criticism

Earlier this week, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie were guests on The View. The “Teenage Dream” singer addressed the recent criticism over her rude critiques of the contestants. She fought back at the claims that she was a bully.

Co-host Sunny Hostin asked the judges what the fans can expect from the new season. Katy Perry teased that there are “more tense moments.” Joy Behar asked her if she yelled at one of the contestants. Lionel confirmed that it happened.

“You know, I stick up for those underdogs and I don’t — all of us — we have so much respect for music and the game and the whole thing,” Katy Perry explained. “And so, when someone is not taking it respectfully, we call it out.”

The View panel agreed with her statement and moved on. What are your thoughts on Katy Perry speaking out on the bullying claims? Do you agree that she is just sticking up for them? Or, do you think she’s rude? Sound off below in the comment section.

  1. Katy Perry is rude and condescending. She has let her fame go to head. She should immediately be removed from the show. She doesn’t know how to use positive constructive criticism. Her comments are so out of line. She is a bully and embarrassment to the show! Time to say bye to Perry!!

  2. Last season I thought that Katy Perry was a great mentor and empathetic. I am thinking this year that Katy may have some drama in her own life that is overshadowing her ability to be empathetic with everyone that is a contestant. I thought she was quite wise previously.
