Bella Twins No More? Nikki & Brie Change Their Last Names
The Bella Twins had an iconic run under their stage names. But they are putting those figures to rest.
This week, Nikki and Brie announced that they would no longer use the name “Bella.” Instead, they will use their birth name “Garcia” moving forward.
Why exactly did they choose to make the change now? Keep reading to get the details.
The Bella Twins lay their ring name to rest
The Bella Twins signed with WWE back in 2007 when women wrestlers still weren’t given much of a voice. In their memoir Incomparable, the sisters discuss how hard they fought to get the women wrestlers the attention and promotion they truly deserved.
Today, wrestling is a very different world thanks to their efforts.
After skyrocketing to fame with the WWE, the Bella twins eventually went on to pursue other adventures. They even got their own reality TV show, Total Bellas, which ran on E! from 2016-2021.
But now, Nikki and Brie have decided to formally retire from WWE and put their characters to rest as well.
“When our contract came up with WWE, mutually we all knew we just needed to head into this new chapter,” Nikki revealed during a recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show. During the segment, the women revealed they were dropping “Bella” and going by “Garcia” from then on.
“I just want to thank Brie Bella—Brie Bella the character, the name, all of it that I have been the last 16, 17 years,” Brie added. “I am so excited to close that chapter on Brie Bella, put that book to the side and open up a new one—and see what Brie Garcia is gonna do next.”
“She empowered me, she inspired me, she truly made me become fearless,” Nikki chimed in. “And the road that she has paved and what she’s done for women and the youth—and will continue to do—just as Nikki Garcia.”

Nikki and Brie have moved on from their days in WWE
Although the sisters are still as fun-loving and adventurous as they ever were, they live very different lives these days. Both women are married and have children now.
Brie is married to fellow WWE superstar Bryan Danielson (ring name Daniel Bryan) and they share a five-year-old daughter named Birdie and a two-year-old son named Buddy. Nikki recently married Dancing With The Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev in a beautiful Parisian ceremony. They are the parents of a two-year-old son named Matteo.
Without a doubt, Nikki and Brie will keep creating new content — just under a different name. Fans wish the Garcia Twins lots of luck in their future endeavors!
