Whoopi Goldberg Asserts The Problem Is With Policing
On Monday, the talk show panelists discussed the horrific camera footage that showed Tyre Nichols (a black man, 29), being beaten by five black police officers. As the episode started, Whoopi said her piece about the video. She said, “When will the brutality finally lead to some police reform from the ground up? Clearly, it doesn’t matter if it’s a white policeman or a black policeman. It is the problem with the policing itself.”
“Seems things don’t make sense to people unless it’s somebody they can feel or they can recognize. Do we need to see white people also get beaten before anybody will do anything? I’m not suggesting that, so don’t write us and tell me what a racist I am. I’m just asking, is that what people have to see in order to wake up and realize this affects us all?” she continued.
Sunny Hostin Decides Not To Watch Nichols’ Video
A somber-looking Sunny Hostin responded to Whoopi Goldberg’s question. She admitted that she decided not to watch the video given how brutal it was. The 54-year-old further added, “As the mother of a black son who’s six foot two and 20 years old, my worst nightmare is probably what is on that video.”

She also revealed details of a study that showed that Black people continuously watch these videos and hence suffer from PTSD due to what they think is their “linked fate.”
Tyre Nichols Was Hit With Fists, Batons, And Pepper Spray
The footage that was released last Friday showed the events that happened on January 7, 2023, at a traffic stop. This led to Nichols’ unfortunate demise. The clips showed the aforementioned officers pepper-spraying and beating the young man with their fists and batons. In the harrowing video, Nichols was seen crying as he called out for his mother. The five officers responsible for his death were arrested and charged with second-degree murder and other additional offenses.
