Netflix Under Fire For Treating ‘Squid Game’ Players Like Animals
Netflix now runs the risk of being sued by the Squid Game contestants for unethical treatment on the sets of the reality show. Several players complained that the reality show has been treating them like animals. As filming commenced at the Cardington TV Studios in Bedfordshire on Monday, dozens of players blasted the production for their nightmarish treatment. So, what happened on the sets of Squid Game: The Challenge that has contestants threatening legal action on Netflix? Keep reading to find out the details!
Squid Game Players Treated Like Fodders For The Show
On Monday, as filming commenced for the reality show, participants stated that it quickly turned gruesome. The contestants were made to stand for hours in freezing temperatures below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. As reported to The Sun by a contestant, “We were tortured for eight hours. We were just fodder. You wouldn’t treat animals like that. I know the show was supposed to be tough but it felt inhumane. At one point I could see they were bringing on a black coffin with a pink ribbon just like in the original show. I feel like they prioritized getting a good shot over helping us.”

Another contestant revealed that they saw a female participant collapse right in front of them during break time. They revealed that her head hit the floor and the sound echoed around the studio. She also started convulsing on the floor seemingly having a seizure. “Then another lady collapsed. They were dropping like flies,” the participant added.
Show Producers Took Away Heating Pads Before Filming
However, this wasn’t the only complaint contestants had after filming for their first game-Red Light, Green Light. As per reports, the contestants were given heat pads to keep warm on the set. However, the producers took away those heating pads right before the filming commenced.

In the fictional version of the South Korean TV series, the players that moved during the game were shot dead by machine guns. To mimic the same, the reality show participants were given blood packs that were placed under their clothing. These packs triggered automatically if the contestants moved during the pause to make it seem like they had been shot.
Squid Game Eliminated Contestants Rally Against Netflix
However, many players complained that the show had been unfair to them and that they were wrongly eliminated. About 44 eliminated contestants gathered chanting, “We didn’t move,” as they waited for their flights to return home. Some of these contestants came to participate in the reality show from very faraway places like Dubai, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

However, Netflix has denied all allegations including the reports of serious injury. Yet, they did confirm that three contestants required minor medical assistance during the game.
