Gabrielle Union Had No Guilt, Says She Felt ‘Entitled’ To Cheat

Gabrielle Union joined Dax Shepard as a guest on the latest episode of Armchair Expert recently. During their conversation, the two connected over the topic of infidelities.

At 48 years old, Dax Shepard admits there are a lot of mixed feelings boiling inside of him in regard to infidelity. On one hand, he feels a huge amount of guilt and shame over being an unfaithful man. On the other hand, however, there is a part of him that is happy with the decisions he’s made and where he is now. Dax notes that while life can sometimes be messy and complicated, life is also short. And, there aren’t any do-overs. So, he can’t be bogged down by regretting the decisions he’s made.

Gabrielle Union chimed in to admit that she really related to what the actor had to say. She, however, found herself wishing she had felt a little more guilt than she did about being unfaithful. Instead, however, she wrote the situation off as a “stupid relationship” that should have never progressed beyond dating.

Gabrielle Union admits she certainly doesn’t win any awards for being a great wife as she had some massive focus issues. As fans know, she was married to NFL running back Chris Howard for roughly five years from 2001 to 2006.

She explained: “In our first marriage, neither one of us felt like the marriage should get in the way of our dating.”

She was battling her husband and herself

Gabrielle Union recognized that she was at war with trying to match her husband’s behavior and her own sense of entitlement. She found herself noticing what her husband was doing and trying to one-up him so he would “feel it.” 

She admitted it was a “spoils of the riches” situation as she thought she was entitled to be unfaithful to her husband because she was working hard and paying all of the bills.

Being with her current husband, Dwyane Wade, the actress admits that her feelings weren’t that different early on in the relationship. She explained that both she and her husband Dwyane had to spend some time working on themselves and healing themselves from the inside out first.

She continued to explain: “We randomly came back around as more healed people and more open to understanding our complicity in some of the challenges that we created for ourselves.”

“Now we’re both free and we are free to choose ourselves and free to choose each other every day, which is a completely different sentiment,” She concluded.
