Ruggero Deodato Dead At 83: The Most Controversial Film Director
Ruggero received the label as one of the most controversial directors of all time thanks to the 1980s film titled, Cannibal Holocaust. This film is recognized as one of the “goriest movies” of all time. Furthermore, the movie is barred in many countries. Moreover, it was cited as one of the first films of all time to use “found footage.”
His controversial film was barred in several countries because it featured graphic depictions of sexual assault, animal cruelty, and violence. The horrific nature of the film resulted in Ruggero Deodato being arrested for obscenity charges. Furthermore, he was also accused of murdering several actors to capture more realistic-looking brutality on camera. He, however, was later cleared of all charges against him.

While the director certainly had other credits to his name, Cannibal Holocaust is really the only title he was ever recognized for because of how horrific it was.
Per the Italian newspaper, his death was confirmed via Facebook by someone named Sergio Martino. Other than confirming he passed away in Rome, no details surrounding his cause of death or his health prior to his passing have been made contact.
A giant is gone. He'll always be remembered for one of the most notorious films in cinema history, but he also left behind a tremendous body of work. We first interviewed him in the early 2000s & most recently for his final feature, BALLAD IN BLOOD. RIP Ruggero Deodato 1939-2022. pic.twitter.com/gyT1HOFTdQ

Unsurprisingly, his death isn’t coming with as many tributes as he was an extremely controversial director that had accumulated a lot more hate than love over the years.
Rest in peace, Ruggero Deodato.
