Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday’ Sets New Netflix Streaming Record
Tim Burton’s supernatural comedy Wednesday premiered on Netflix on November 23 serving as a spinoff to the popular Addams Family franchise. With Jenna Ortega serving as the titular character, the series quickly gained prominence among comedy horror fans. Tim Burton is in charge so it was expected that the show would have a unique premise. However, the series has unexpectedly created a new record on the streamer dethroning its top title. What is this new record? Keep reading to find out the details!
Wednesday Has Accrued 341.23 Million Streamed Hours
Wednesday was set to be a hit from the start. However, the series has taken over the streamer’s most successful series in just five days of its release. According to Netflix’s latest metrics, Wednesday was watched more than 341.23 Million hours in the first five days of its premiere.

As per ComicBook, this marks the streamer’s biggest week ever for an English-language TV series. It has successfully taken over Stranger Things Season 4’s spot that topped the chart on two different occasions. Season 4 Vol.1 debuted at a 335 Million hour week followed by Vol.2 which debuted at 301 Million hours for its first week. Another major Netflix hit that came close enough to this mark was the true crime series Dahmer. It got close enough to the 300 Million mark, topping out at 299 Million in one week.
Can Wednesday Hit The 1 Billion Hours Mark In 28 Days?
If the trend continues, the series will soon close to over 1 Billion hours in its first 28 days of release. With such big numbers tagged to the title, it is just time before the streamer hands out an official renewal notice to Wednesday makers. As of now, the series hasn’t been renewed for a second season and it’s too soon to tell if it will be.

Despite not having an official renewal status, the creative team is way ahead with the show’s future. In a recent interview, showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough teased that they already have ideas for three more seasons.
Millar noted, “For us, it’s always looking at the future, and when we sit down to create a show, it’s looking at multiple seasons, ideally. That’s never expected, but that’s the anticipation that hopefully, the show is successful. So you always lay out at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change.”
What Is The Addams Family Spinoff Series About?
Wednesday is described as a supernaturally infused, Sleuthing, mystery charting series that entails the titular character’s adventure at Nevermore Academy. While she struggles to befriend other students, she also attempts to master her emerging psychic ability. To add to her troubles, she will have to solve the mystery of a monster that has terrorized the local town with a history that connects with her parents’ past.
