What Is Inventing The Christmas Prince About?

According to the Hallmark synopsis, Shelby (Mowry-Housley) is a single mom to Grace (Birch), after being widowed just a few years ago.

A “hard-working rocket engineer” by day, Shelby spends her home time trying to keep Christmas magic alive for her precious daughter. That includes telling Grace a magical fairy tale that she made up when she was a young girl.

This is the story of “The Christmas Prince.” The handsome prince has a “snowy-white horse and carriage, who is an unparalleled storyteller, best friends with Santa and known to grant wishes.”

However, in real life, Shelby has a “Scrooge-like boss” named Evan (Rowe Jr.). He is right out of a Dickens novel, even asking his employees to work over the Christmas holiday.

Shelby is about to quit her job and tell this guy goodbye when Grace comes into the office and believes that Evan is the prince from the story.

Evan prevents her from leaving. He is in hot water with the upper brass who do not agree with his tough management style. Moreover, he cannot allow another person to leave the company.

Therefore, he begs Shelby. Shelby agrees to stay if he will do one important thing. He must pretend to be the prince from her childhood tale, to make Grace happy.

This request includes a multitude of caveats including appearing at a Christmas sleepover, attending high tea, and even taking Shelby out for dinner.

Things go great until Evan misses one of the promised tasks due to work. Now, Shelby is worried about her daughter and breaking her heart.

But perhaps Grace is right – Shelby just needs to keep believing in the magic of the Christmas Prince.
