‘Today’: Hoda Kotb Blasts Talk Show For Sexism

Today host Hoda Kotb is blasting the talk show for sexism. The 58-year-old feels like she made history when she became one of the older female co-anchors alongside 50-year-old Savannah Guthrie. Both of the ladies took over the morning show when former co-host Matt Lauer was ousted from his position in 2017.

The #MeToo movement swept the nation as complaints about his inappropriate behavior surfaced. Matt co-hosted the show with Savannah. However, it was unheard of to see two older women co-anchor together. Hoda recalled a time when many men and younger women were on the set.

Slams Today Show’s sexist actions

In a new interview with Forbes, Hoda Kotb called out Today’s sexist moves. She was made the co-anchor of the show alongside Savannah Guthrie in 2018. That move broke history as it was a first for the talk show. At the time, Hoda co-hosted the mid-morning edition with former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford.

That show wasn’t taken as seriously as the early edition of the Today Show. Even though Hoda had an impressive resume. She previously worked for NBC News and Dateline. Yet, she wasn’t taken as seriously in her field of work as her younger peers.

“There was always the old guy and the young anchor girl,” Hoda Kotb told Forbes. “You never saw us.”

The Today Show host has something to celebrate. She was featured on Forbes’ list of “50 Over 50.” The list includes 200 women who are in their fifties with successful careers. Hoda shares the honor with Savannah.

Over the past few months, there have been rumors about a feud between the co-anchors. Fans could even sense the tension between them. Reports suggested that Savannah doesn’t get along with Hoda behind the scenes. However, in the interview, Savannah had nothing but good things to say about her co-host.

She started off by saying that her colleague “represents to me what a modern woman is.” Savannah also called her an “incredible professional and a wonderful journalist.” This should put an end to the months of rumors about the feuding co-hosts.

Hoda Kotb gets tired of her job

As TV Shows Ace previously reported, Hoda Kotb struggled with her job. She admitted that her daughters kept her up the night before. Both Hoda and Savannah start their day at 4:45 a.m. with a wake-up call and a meeting with their glam squads. The co-hosts get ready in separate rooms.

Yet, there’s one routine that the two take part in together. Both of them love to FaceTime with their kids in between breaks. Hoda Kotb loves talking to her daughters even if she ends up sleepy. Sometimes, the Today Show hosts have to alternate days off as they spend time with their families. This caused some fans to wonder if they were out because they didn’t get along.
