In Season 4, fans learned that Kim Plath was unhappy in her marriage to Barry and that she wanted a divorce. This shocked many fans because it went against the beliefs Kim preached to her children for years.
In addition to all of the divorce drama, there was plenty of conflict between other members of the family. Fans saw sisters Lydia and Moriah Plath have a hard conversation about Max Kallschmidt. He dated Moriah and, after they split up, Lydia hung out with him.
By the end of the season, not everything was resolved. The family spent a day at the river together, which may have helped them reconnect, but they were still working through their issues. So, there is certainly plenty more content for another season.

This show seems oddly surreal. What is the problem with this allegedly devout, perfect Christian family? It seems like a certain level of doom and gloom is hanging over the family. They try to act normal, but it’s like they are hiding some deep family secrets that have caused all this strange dysfunction. I’m afraid we’re going to see some bad secrets come out at some point. Sad.
