What Inspired Jordin Sparks To Compete In ‘DWTS’ Season 31?
Many Dancing With The Stars fans felt absolutely delighted to learn that American Idol alum Jordin Sparks would join the cast of Season 31. She and her partner Brandon Armstrong kicked off the start of the season and had the first performance of the night.
The pair performed the cha-cha-cha to Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and received fairly decent scores from the judges. Fans hope they’ll be able to improve and steal the show next week.
But what exactly prompted Jordin Sparks to compete on Dancing With The Stars this year? She recently opened up about what inspires her to dance.
Jordin Sparks receives encouragement from some very special fans
Singer Jordin Sparks is definitely no stranger to the pressure of televised competitions. The 32-year-old singer won Americal Idol Season 6 when she was just a teenager. She went on to try acting. And now, she’s giving ballroom dance a shot.
She has a loyal fanbase cheering her on from back home. She has a few very special people who encourage her to keep going in the competition, no matter what.
Like many other performers on the show, family is everything to Jordin Sparks. She recently revealed that her little boy inspires her to keep going in the competition, even when things seem difficult.
“I want to do this because it scares me,” Jordin recently told PEOPLE. “It scares me, terrified is the word. I’m terrified and excited!”
Her son Dana Isaiah Jr. is four years old and she wants to show him how important it is to try new things.
“I want to show him that you can be brave and scared at the same time,” the singer continued. “So I really am doing this for him.”
Although Dana is excited that his mother gets to compete on DWTS, it’s a little rough being away from her for so long. Jordin also revealed in the interview that he’s always asking why she has to spend so much time in rehearsal. The family is going through a period of major adjustments, but they still make time for one another.
“There’s a lot of new chapters and new beginnings happening and it feels a little frantic a little bit,” the singer told PEOPLE. “But at the same time, when I come home and I’m able to just sit with him and bond with him, we have that reconnection moment, it makes it all worth it.”
Elvis Night kicks off next Monday night
Jordin and Brandon need votes from fans to stay in the competition! Next week is Elvis Night and they really hope to stay in the competition. Tune into the next episode of Season 31 on Disney+ this Monday night. The episode starts at 8 PM eastern time, so don’t forget to watch!
