Tyra Banks Reveals Her True Thoughts On Having A Co-Host
When Dancing With The Stars Season 31 premieres on Monday night, Tyra Banks will have a co-host. This year, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor Alfonso Ribeiro will join her. Many DWTS fans aren’t wild about Tyra’s hosting abilities on her own and are excited about adding Alfonso to the show.
But how exactly is the supermodel handling this new addition? She recently made her feelings abundantly clear.
Rumors indicated Tyra Banks initially wasn’t thrilled about sharing the stage
Many seasoned Dancing With The Stars fans felt that Alfonso Ribeiro was an excellent choice for a new host. He and his partner Witney Carson won Season 19 together and absolutely stole the show. It only makes sense that the exec team would ask him to come back.
When the news initially broke, rumors swirled that Tyra Banks wasn’t at all happy about the choice.
“Tyra was basically told that she would have to co-host the show with Alfonso or not host the show at all,” an inside source allegedly told RadarOnline. “Tyra tried to host the show solo, and it just didn’t work. She thought her personality and talent would be enough, but viewers didn’t agree. Focus groups showed they missed the chemistry of two hosts working together. Obviously, Tyra wasn’t happy about the decision, but she had no choice, if she refused, she would have been shown the door.”
Now that the Season 31 premiere is just days away, Tyra Banks is making her feelings known.
The current DWTS host claims she advocated for Alfonso Ribeiro
Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribeiro actually worked together on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
“When the team brought up the idea of Alfonso with me, I was like, ‘Yes, yes and yes, let’s stop right there and look no further.’ Nostalgia is everything these days so I felt that Alfonso and I being together on a stage again after those fun Fresh Prince of Bel-Air times will be fun for so many to see. And fun for Alfonso and I, too,” the model told Us Weekly in a recent interview.
She went on to say that she thought the actor would be a great addition to the team since he knows what it’s like to compete on the show.
Before taking the job, Alfonso Ribeiro even reached out to Tom Bergeron and had a heart-to-heart. He wanted to be as honest as possible with his predecessor and wanted his blessing.
“We have talked. I wouldn’t say that he gave advice because [it would be] essentially the same advice he offered me when I was doing American’s Funniest Videos, which was ‘Be you,’” the actor told Us Weekly. “We have enough respect for each other that I wanted to talk to him as a friend. I wanted to let him know how it went down [with] all the love and respect that I have for Tom.”
DWTS comes to Disney+ on Monday night! Don’t forget to tune in and see what happens on the big night.
