Tyra Banks paints the show’s new format in a positive light

Many Dancing With The Stars viewers are pretty upset that the show is moving to Disney+ this year. But even so, the new platform will give the show the chance to operate in a new way. In the past, the competitors relied on commercial breaks for costume changes. Clean-up crews also had to frequently reset the stage to clean up confetti, balloons, and other things used in the performances. But now, that’s all changing.

“The new ‘no commercials’ format is intense and exciting. There’s no way I could handle this new format alone,” Tyra told Us Weekly in a new interview. “We no longer have commercial time to clear sets. It’s nonstop action. So, having a new host allows for cut-aways from the stage so that the crew can get the next act ready.”

This year, Tyra Banks will share the stage with Alfonso Ribeiro. Insiders previously reported that the supermodel wasn’t happy about sharing the hosting position, but she’s choosing to speak well of him to the press.

“When the team brought up the idea of Alfonso with me, I was like, ‘Yes, yes and yes, let’s stop right there and look no further,’” Tyra continued. “Nostalgia is everything these days so I felt that Alfonso and I being together on a stage again after those fun Fresh Prince of Bel-Air times will be fun for so many to see. And fun for Alfonso and I, too.”

One former competitor calls her “polarizing”

DWTS fans weren’t at all happy when the exec team announced they were replacing Tom Bergeron with Tyra Banks. Over the past few seasons, some fans have warmed up to her. However, the supermodel does remain unpopular with many viewers.

“Tyra, I feel like was such a polarizing figure,” Season 30 contestant Cody Rigsby told Us Weekly. “Either you loved her as a host or people were sometimes mad about it. I don’t know. She was great. It was so iconic meeting her and she was such a lovely person so if she wants to do the job, I hope she’s back. If she doesn’t, then somebody else.”

Dancing With The Stars comes to Disney+ starting on September 19. Don’t forget to set your timers! Check back for more stories like this one and stay in the loop.
